What is actually in play here, is determining the fate of Mecca. If ISIS *wins* their plan is to destroy the city. The other factions merely seek to control it. Whoever decides the fate of Mecca will be the resurgent Islamic Caliphate, so much hinges on this brewing conflict, which as I stated will go full-force before the year is over.
