U.S. Steel says it will lay off more than 350 workers in East Chicago, Indiana, as it plans to temporarily close its tin mill.
Company spokeswoman Sarah Cassella tells The Times in Munster that layoffs will begin in mid-March. She declined to comment on how long the plant will be closed for.
Cassella says low-priced tin product imports have hurt domestic business.

The times, they are a-changing. I know an old-time steel guru. I guess the steel industry never recovered. Wall Street's largely converted to condos now. Even the AIG building, which is a landmark. Oy. Just read that JP Morgan's original building, located across the street from the NYSE, now owned by some Chinese company, has filed for a permit to become a bowling alley.
But how can I complain? It's not Detroit.
I did not accept the job at Three Mile Island even though it was offered at a really good salary..................
But why not?
