Here's one way to solve global warming: Spend $90 trillion (£59 trillion) over the next few years to redesign all the cities — as in all the cities on earth — so people live in more densely packed neighborhoods and don't need cars.

This is all about putting the people in big piles so they can be physically and psychologically controlled quicker, easier, and better.

Have no doubt this is about total control of the population, nothing else.

When suburbanites are routinely enduring 1-2 hour commutes each way -- and God forbid someone gets a flat tire on the beltway -- it begins to occur to an increasing number of people that it would be nice to get their lives back.

Self-driving automobiles are soon here and this technology will change the city/suburb dynamic. Republicans can start work while on their way to work, if they're not working from home via high speed internet. Self-flying aircraft will triple the practical commute range. Cities are becoming reservations for Democrats. Republicans need to get out before sundown.

Oh, goody. I can have a two hour commute each way in a self-driving car, and thus extend my workday by four hours. Or I can live a mile from work (my current situation), and walk or ride a bike. I do not find this a hard choice.

I agree that technology will drive major changes. Many more people will likely work from home. The practical barrier to this now, in many office situations, is the discomfort of many supervisors in managing a remote workforce -- and, frankly, the difficulty of many people of staying productive on a longer leash.

Read several of those paperbacks, and what was done to the tri-states at the end of “Out of the Ashes” is precisely what a vindictive and totalitarian federal government would attempt to do following “Armageddon”. Although the tri-states were destroyed, I do appreciate what Badger did to the POTUS.

The second book was very interesting and followed the old testament themes from my viewpoint. The fourth book in the series was fairly disturbing and I don't agree with the author eventually allowing Emil to be an ally, but who knows, forgiveness and all that.

At least Sam Hartline was finally killed off! :)

An entertaining series, but got off into some very odd tangents, particularly concerning cannibalism and mutants, but who's to say it couldn't happen? :)

I am rereading The Last Mountain Man series. I really enjoy his writing. It is a shame he died when he did. J A is doing a good job too on the newer books.

That’s a great plan - for the construction companies and materials suppliers who are going to make $90 trillion to do the work. And for Dick Blum, because I’m sure he stands to make tens of millions off the deal, somehow. :)
