Is there anybody there whom we should prefer?

It sounds like all are bad actors just trying to promote their own version of Islam and the place is a snake pit.

That is because I am.

This kind of stuff is part of why I say I spent 5 years in Yemen during 1993 and early ‘94.

The Houthi advance on the capital and beyond has badly weakened Hadi, who is relied upon by Washington for support in U.S. drone strikes targeting militants from Yemen’s al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, also known as AQAP.

The group claimed responsibility for planning and funding the attack earlier this month at the French satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo, which touched off days of terrorist violence that left 17 people dead.

AQAP has carried many suicide attacks and has begun to target rival Houthi fighters, which analysts said has exacerbated sectarian tensions.

I would not consider picking sides and thinking they were an ally.

Actually, I think you could make a good case for strongly patrolling all of the Yemen boarders and coasts while setting up volume dealerships of ammo.

This is another chance for nation building and to win Yemeni hearts and souls for democracy by bombing them into submission.

We used to greet the travelers from Houston at the airport with:

“Set your watch ahead 9 hours and your calendar back 700 years.”

I brought a video camera into the country. They put the serial number in my passport. I wasn’t allowed to leave unless I took it back out with me.

Information Minister Nadia al-Sakkaf posted on her Twitter account that the shelling started at 3 p.m. local time “by armed forces positioned over rooftops facing” the president’s house.

At the same time, Houthi rebels also raided the president’s offices, sweeping into the presidential palace and looting the grounds’ arms depots, according to Col. Saleh al-Jamalani, the commander of the Presidential Protection Force that guards the palace.

“This is a coup. There is no other word to describe what is happening but a coup,” al-Jamalani told The Associated Press, adding that the rebels were likely aided by insiders.

(snip)

Also earlier Tuesday, Houthi rebels roamed the streets on foot and in pickup trucks mounted with anti-aircraft guns, manned checkpoints across Sanaa and near the prime minister’s residence, and beefed up their presence around other key building, including the intelligence headquarters.

These rebels have any political or (ahem) religious affiliations?

They're Norwegians angered by the poor quality of their sardines.
