Japan's Prime Minister vowed Tuesday to save the lives of two Japanese hostages, one a freelance journalist and the other a soldier for hire, threatened with beheading in an online video purportedly released by the Islamic State terror group.
In the video, identified as being made by the Islamic State group's al-Furqan media arm and posted on militant websites associated with the extremist group, a militant threatened to kill the men unless a $200 million ransom was paid within 72 hours. If confirmed to be from Islamic State, better known as ISIS, the video would mark the first public demand for ransom from the group in exchange for the release of captives.
Speaking in Jerusalem, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe called on ISIS to immediately release the hostages, saying that "their lives are the top priority." Abe is in the midst of a six-day visit to the Middle East, accompanied by more than 100 government officials and presidents of Japanese companies.
"It is unforgivable," he said. "Extremism and Islam are completely different things."
Abe said he would send Yasuhide Nakayama, a deputy foreign minister, to Jordan to seek the country's support and to resolve the hostage crisis. The premier also said the Israeli government, which Japan promised Sunday to cooperate with on counterterrorism, are sharing information to aid in the hostage crisis. The Israeli prime minister's office declined to comment.
In the video, the two men, identified by ISIS as Kenji Goto Jogo and Haruna Yukawa, appear in orange jumpsuits like other hostages previously killed by ISIS, which controls a third of Iraq and Syria. The militant who threatens them speaks in a British accent and resembles a militant involved in other filmed beheadings.

“”Extremism and Islam are completely different things.” “
No. I’ve known several Muslims from college and work. The difference between talk and action is the percentage of them versus non-Muslims. The ones in college and at work talked casually about what needed to happen to non-Muslims in various situations. (This is why I’d never want to be helpless in the control of one, like on an operating table or in a hospital.) The ones from work had been here most of their lives and were proudly not-acculturated.
Interesting...
What kind of moron starts a beheading fight with the Japanese!
If the Japanese PM is successful, what will Obamugabe do?
This will be a “popcorn” moment as a small island nation exceeds the efforts of a continental super-power.
Come to think of it, Obamugabe’s reticence for “colonialism” might play even better into this resolution.
I had a Muslim Pakistani colleague who was quite nice and very pleasant to work with.
He had a Ph.D in Engineering from a Western university too. Obviously an educated man.
That was when Salman Rushdie came out with his book — THE SATANIC VERSES.
After that, the Ayatollah Kohmeini issued a fatwa saying that Rushdie must be killed for his work.
I discussed this issue with him over lunch and to my unpleasant surprised, he actually AGREED with the Ayatollah.
This, from a peaceful, nice guy who was quite pleasant to work with.
Which makes me wonder .... how many “moderate” Muslims think like that?
RE: What kind of moron starts a beheading fight with the Japanese!
I’d like to see them try it on Chicoms and see how they react...
China has a huge Muslim problem in the Western part of their country too.
Darkly funny, but exactly what I was thinking.
Why does NJI have a shadow on the right side of his neck, and HARUNA have a shadow on the left side of his neck ?
I had exactly the same experience. At lunch my Muslim work “buddy” said, casually, “well, he (Rushdie) needs to die.” He then stuffed pizza into his mouth as if he’d just said, “the weather is nice.” We are crazy to let Muslims immigrate here.
Nurse will see you now (from he UK) but you can't see the nurse)
I believe your statement...
“The difference between talk and action is the percentage of them versus non-Muslims.”
is closest to the truth.
When the Muslim has plurality (or even the loudest voice) and the political-upper-hand, the kafir is placed under the Islamic yoke.
In the end, it is only a matter of time and whether the unbeliever will submit.
[Wait...did I say submit? Maybe I meant to use the word “Islam”?
Meh, one and the same.]
Got a point there, unless there are two suns
in the sky...
$200MM is just a drop in the bucket for Abe who is known to print fiat furiously.
Likely because they are both currently deceased and ISIS cares not of Western fact-checking.
Head-sawing to follow.
Isis ropadope: hostages will be released to garner favorable press...allow defenders’ like obama to laud militants’ ‘reasonableness’. Takeover- of- world gambit sprung too early. Resistance too high. Time to lull civilized people to sleep a bit longer.
