“Surveys” such as these mean nothing unless you are given the whole picture. I could, for example, ask 100 Americans who won World War II. 95 people could get it right, and 5 people could give stupid answers, like “the Romans”, “General Grant”, etc.

And then I could air a program featuring just the 5 people who gave stupid answers. What would I have proven? Only that I like to mislead and embarrass people.

Mark said he did this in 30 minutes.

Americans can tell you who the Quarterback is of the New England Patriots, but cannot name just 1 Founding Father.

Well, it's easy to mix up the Second Punic War and the Second World War.

Who's to say that among the American generals in WWII there wasn't at least one with the name Grant?

General Grant may have died by the time of the Second World War, but Simon Bolivar Buckner, Jr., son of Grant's friend from West Point days, won the last battle of the war, the battle of Okinawa. At least in the sense that he was in command--the troops involved in the battle actually won it.
