Godly, Gun-Toting 'Rogue' Seeks White House (Huckabee tries to play the class warfare card)

A leading Republican presidential contender has warned against electing another Bush or Clinton to the White House, saying that installing an aristocratic “ruling class” in the United States could all but destroy the country.

Mike Huckabee, a Baptist minister and quick-witted populist Republican who has powerful appeal among religious conservative activists, suggested that those who “live within the enclaves of the educational and cultural establishment and elites” could not understand the lives of ordinary Americans.

While not referring directly to his potential presidential election competitors, his words resonate because Jeb Bush, the son and brother of former Republican presidents, and Hillary Clinton, the wife of a former Democratic president, are viewed as their parties’ top prospects.

The dynastic strand within American politics has been underscored with the likely entry into the Republican stakes of Mitt Romney, the defeated 2012 nominee who is a multi-millionaire and the son of a former Michigan governor and one-time presidential candidate.

By contrast, Huckabee, 59, traces his lineage to Liverpudlian “rogues” who emigrated to the US after being refused entry to Ireland. His father was a fireman who didn’t finish secondary school and his mother a gas company clerk.

“I don’t begrudge anybody who was fortunate enough to be born into wealth or prestige,” Huckabee told The Sunday Times in an interview. “It’s not their fault any more than it was my fault that I was born into poverty.”(continued)

Just because you went to Princeton or Harvard doesn't mean you came from money, Mike. And did they interview him at his beachfront Florida mansion or on one of the private jets he uses?

Huck would be an awful president, but he’s correct on the ‘ruling class’ bit.

“Godly, Gun-Toting ‘Rogue’”. Who are they talkin’ about? Sorry huckster. You still ain’t the guy. Thanks for helping to keep the folks divided and confused and without a clear choice. So far I haven’t seen a “candidate” that suits me. If we can find one that says we’re going back to the constitution and dumping the un, I might think about that person.

Agreed. Just a fake conservative trying to derail Ted Cruz. I’m sure Jeb or Mitt or whoever is the RINO choice has promised him a cabinet position for his role.

Somebody put a bee in his bonnet that criticizing Beyonce as a way to obliquely slam the Obamas parenting skills was a smart thing to do. Why bother? Obama (Praise the Lord!) will not be running for President this time. This makes Huck look as though he’s too chicken to go after an actual likely rival for the presidency.

There's a reason Gomer didn't attend an Ivy League school and it ain't that his dad was a poor man. Many a poor man's son and daughter have attended prestigious schools.

“Agreed. Just a fake conservative trying to derail Ted Cruz. I’m sure Jeb or Mitt or whoever is the RINO choice has promised him a cabinet position for his role.”

That is an untruth and one that is utterly absurd. I agree with what Governor Huckabee wrote about posters like you:

“The anonymity provided on line has certainly prompted the proliferation of the disgustingly crude. People who would never say such things about another person to his or her face feel unrestrained in their ability to spew snarky sneers in blogs and tweets.” Mike Huckabee
