Money Morning
Michael A. Robinson writes: This year, 80% of the chips for new PCs will be produced in Silicon Valley Taiwan Chinas Shenzhen Province South Korea
Wrong on all counts.
More and more of todays chipmakers locating their manufacturing facilities a bit off the beaten path these days in one of the worlds fastest-growing economies and a nation that some of you may find controversial.
But my job is to take you wherever the biggest innovations are being made so that we can find the biggest opportunities. So, today Im going to show you exactly where so many of worlds top tech companies are headed.
Intel Inside Vietnam
Many investors might be tempted to steer clear of Vietnam because of the way the U.S. conflict ended there and the political upheaval it caused back home.
As someone whos kept an eye on this controversial nation for more than 40 years, I believe thats a lot of noise. And you know what Rule No. 2 says about that separate the signal from the noise.
Vietnam is an economy that boasts impressive economic growth, and that offers tech investors many hefty and growing opportunities.
Gross domestic product in 2014′s third quarter grew 6.19% from a year earlier. And for the first nine months of last year, industrial output grew 6.7%, and exports rose 14.1% from a year earlier to $109.6 billion.
As I said above, 80% of this years central processing units (CPU) for PCs will be made not just in Vietnam, but in a single location Saigon Hi-Tech Park. The sprawling facility sits just off Hanoi Highway less than 10 miles from Ho Chi Minh City, the nations capital.

I think free traitors ought take their sorry ass carcasses out of the USA and follow their Judas money overseas. Only logical.
Not necessarily. The hours can be listed but there is no way to really tell where those hours were worked. More profit if you charge by the hour at American rates. Even so, many contracts are lump sum or percentage of costs, so there is not absolute necessity to track hours (an owner already knows they are getting a good deal on hours worked overseas, so why track them?)
I’m just saying I don’t think you can easily tariff outsourced work that does not result in a physical product coming into the country.
“I think free traitors ought take their sorry ass carcasses out of the USA and follow their Judas money overseas. Only logical. “
The American ideals are based on liberty and the freedom of the pursuit of happiness. They are dim realities in the USA these days, but they burn bright elsewhere and I carry them with me.
I’ve taken steps to prepare as part of freedom and the pursuit of happiness for my family. No apology from me for pursuing the founding principles of my country.
Did you know that the net worth of the average Chilean is not greater than the net worth of the average American?
Did you know the middle class is shrinking here and growing in Asia?
When we reach the point of full capital controls, which have already begun, what will you do? Be trapped.
When we see the the dollar imploding, and your dollars are worthless, what will you do? Be in poverty.
When the USA nationalizes your retirement account, what will you do? Be their dependent.
Rollover and moan? Blame everyone else? Quote patriotic slogans?
Have at it. Your judgement is the echo of a past that was greater than the future.
Best.
Correction:
“Did you know that the net worth of the average Chilean is not greater than the net worth of the average American?”
should be...
Did you know that the net worth of the average Chilean is NOW greater than the net worth of the average American?
Did you this? When we get into a real shooting war with China and/or Russia (it’s coming) I will personally hunt down every free traitor I can find and tar and feather them for starters.
“Did you this? When we get into a real shooting war with China and/or Russia (its coming) I will personally hunt down every free traitor I can find and tar and feather them for starters.”
Your comment is silliness and not worthy of being taken seriously.
You will be broke, dependent on welfare - if it exists - and reduced to nationalistic slogans and threats.
Good luck with that.
Ok Chamberlain, anything you say.
Too bad "Free Trade" is all lies; like a pair of pliers would cost 40 dollars if made in the USA. The scare tactics and BS. How did we survive without all of this slave labor? How did the USA ever win WWII? KMA.
I wonder what the environmental regulations are there. Probably none. Naturally a company would look to produce products where it is more profitable. To hell with N Vietnam’s environment.
I won't go into the loss of the wealth creation, and nothing makes a democrat like an out sourced ex-worker.
I beg to differ.
A company has to keep books AR/AP and an investigator can easily determine the amount of funds tendered to said company and tax either entity as they see fit.
It really isn’t difficult at all.
“Amazing the Free Traitors are proud of destroying the US economy.”
Government taxation, regulation, the legal system and crony capitalism are destroying the country.
“You guys are the best creator of Democrats that there is.”
Dependency and false promises of infinite free money create democrats.
“One day, when it all goes to crap and you need a dumb job to survive, there won’t be any and you will starve....”
I not only don’t need a job. I don’t work for money.
best.
Sure, but they can’t really figure out where the work is being done if it is being transferred digitally, not unless they subpoena email records etc. I don’t think that is happening now and a lot of companies are getting work done that can be transferred digitally from foreign locations.
Somebody is paying somebody. There are invoices and funds are being transferred. As to subpoenaing emails the IRS will subpoena the blood from your children’s veins if they feel like it and a Judge will sign off on anything they want.
This isn’t that hard for a tax auditor to figure out. When the IRS sink in their teeth they don’t let go until they are satisfied.
Most people are not willing to do prison time to help their employer steal some tax money. Good Lord knows I’m not.
