Myanmar Woman Screams Innocence Before Saudi Beheading video

A Myanmar woman beheaded in a Saudi street this week for killing her husband's young daughter is seen screaming her innocence in a video posted on the Internet Saturday.

Saudi authorities have arrested someone for filming the incident, said local newspaper websites, including Okaz and Al-Riyadh, in reports accompanied by still shots from the recording.

They did not say what the arrest was for.

The official Saudi Press Agency said Monday that Layla bint Abdul Mutaleb Bassim was executed in the Muslim holy city of Mecca for killing her husband's six-year-old daughter.

Usually the give a sedative before ... in this case they didn’t and it took three strokes to behead her. The justices in this case said it was unusually cruel the way she killed the child.

That's out-of-the-ordinary, based on all the Saudi beheadings I've ever seen (admittedly only six or seven). Of course the same can be said of this kind of beheading as can be said of hanging, electrocution, or almost any other violent method: if you do it correctly, it's good; if not, it can be quite horrendous.

The picture of Mecca at that link sure surprised me. I pictured Mecca as nothing but desert with the black rock they idolize and nothing else.... People actually live there? Boy! Is my education lacking!! So when people go on Haj, they are not camping in the desert - they have choices of accommodations? Then why do they take their chickens and goats with them? Oh! to heck with it. I’m too old to be educated...

“What’s in islam for women?”

One-seventysecondth of the attentions of what’s left of a suicide bomber (assuming she’s a virgin).

We will see on judgment day whether it will burn or be spared.

This is long. But if you have the time, it is very interesting.

In the US, she would have shopped for a Demomoron judge who’d buy her argument that the daughter’s death was merely a 348th-week abortion.

Not too long ago I saw an on-line brochure which advertised “Night Life in Mecca.” I don’t image their idea of “night life” is quite the same as ours. I lived in Jeddah and if there is a night club district there, I missed it. Many hajjis stay in campsites, separated by nationality. One guy told me that they usually stick the Malaysians in between the Iranians and the Nigerians; the Malaysians are thought to be the most easy-going, and the Iranians and the Nigerians are the worst of the lot. I saw a bunch of Nigerians who were wearing leisure suits that they had specially made for the Hajj. I ended up in Nigeria on TDY a few years later. They’re the same on the road as they are at home.

Re: 9 and 10

I agree. 'Fair Trial' - for a foreign woman in Saudi Arabia - stretches the limits of hypotheticals ... So I probably should not have even mentioned it - but 'IF' it was a fair trial - beheading was a reasonable penalty for the crime.

Re: 24

Given the location, and that islamics are in charge, your scenario is a strong possibility. I was just trying to say that although beheadings sound cringe-worthy, it probably is a fairly quick implementation of the death penalty - which this crime deserved. Given the strong possibility that the trial was crooked, I probably should have just passed on my comments.
