I was flying a helicopter nap-of-the-earth in Germany when suddenly over the `common freq’ 123.45 mhz came the cry, “PIGS IN SPAAAAACE!!!” and these two A-10s came & went by not much higher than me, like they had their own rotor blades.

One of the A-10 drivers waved. What a machine!

Every guy in the bus looked on in silence. We all knew what it was. An military outpost. A beachhead for war.

There was an A-10 squadron at Belle Chasse NAS / Joint Forces base, south of New Orleans. Once in a while I'd see them flying in pairs low over the Mississippi, below the tops of the river levees. Sometimes the ANG F-15s would follow suit. Too cool.
