The only people politicians need listen to are their constituents, and they can't even get that right these days.
Everything political comes from the taxpayers. Without us, they have nothing and are nothing.
It would be good if we the people would learn to leverage that to our advantage...

The way to reduce the number of lobbyists is to vastly reduce the size and scope of govnerment. Then there's no money in lobbying, they'll have to make money the old-fashioned way, go out and earn it in the marketplace.
Granted, but I’d think the founding fathers meant individuals, and not ‘professional petitioners’ who constantly seek laws to further their financial interests or enable their operation to gain advantage over a competitor? The system as it stands is has been bastardized into a network to favor only those who financially reward the officeholders who make law favoring only the donors. The good-old boy networks of business and government can’t stand even the thought of honest competition, as they greatly fear the loss of their power.
