Hate-crime hoaxer, a no-show for jail sentence

After failing probation, Charlie Rogers didn’t show up for her 90-day jail sentence Thursday.

Rogers, 36, was sentenced to a week in jail and two years’ probation in April 2013 for faking an anti-gay hate crime that stunned Lincoln and captured the country’s attention the summer before.

Rogers, a lesbian and former Nebraska basketball star, lied to police when she told them three men broke into her house on July 22, 2012, tied her up, carved anti-gay slurs into her skin and tried to light the house on fire.

Many of us will remember how skeptical we were when news broke that a former women's basketball star had been attacked for her homosexuality. Eventually the truth came out and the liar plead guilty and agree to community service and a little jail time. Now, it seems the liar did not complete her community service and should have reported to jail Thursday for her 90 days sentence.

The vast majority of hate crime reports are either hoaxes like this or misinterpretations of appropriate self-defense.

She isn't really skipping out on the sentence, she's doing it to raise our consciousness about the terrible nature of the crime that didn't happen.

Immediately after the 1 day gay marriage was legal in Michigan a lesbian claimed severely beaten by guys using homophobic slurs in broad daylight in a parking lot in Yipsilanti Michigan.

It will be a year in April with nothing more reported on it.
