".......The analysis by the Migration Policy Institute, a Washington D.C.-based nonprofit studying immigration policy, shows Obama's new program could also have sweeping impacts in the surrounding suburban and rural counties, not simply in the urban core.
Republicans say the changes, the most expansive to the nation's immigration system since 1965, are an overreach. Congress passed a bill Wednesday that would cancel it though Obama has said he would veto the measure if it passes the Senate.
According to the MPI analysis:
* About 130,000 immigrants in Harris County are the parents of U.S. citizens or legal permanent residents and could potentially qualify for Obama's program. The analysis does not account for their criminal histories, which could disqualify them. Another 42,000 young adults could receive work authorization under Obama's expansion to his so-called Dreamer program.
* About 13,000 immigrants in Fort Bend County could benefit from a combination of these two programs, about half of all immigrants living illegally in the county.
* In Montgomery, Chambers and Liberty counties, as many as 12,000 immigrants could be eligible, just more than 40 percent of the region's unauthorized population.
