Coincidentally, my teenage son recently started buying, selling and trading shoes. He’s also purchased some cleaning gear and paints to touch-up shoes. I’ve seen him buy a pair of shoes for $40 and sell those same shoes for $120 within a few hours.

That’s possible. I hadn’t considered collectible value, or even that there could be such a thing for sneakers.

This is VERY common in the black community. Entire clothing lines are dedicated to buy-wear-return. If you notice, blacks or members of the black community in popular culture wear clothes with tags and labels all over them. This is so that they can return them to the store and get something else. It's sort of like "leasing" clothes.
I also predict this store will be robbed within 6 months. Just saying.

Chumlee on Pawn Stars is an expert in the collectable sneaker market. He recently looked at a supposedly valuable pair of sneakers and immediately declared them fakes showing how to determine it for the pair. He has his own large collection of sneakers.
