It has NOTHING to do with what he says....NOTHING.....it’s VERY SPECIFIC!

It has to do with what he declares. He has been declaring a lot of nonsense these days. If he makes some infallible declaration are you going to accept it as doctrine from God, or are you willing to accept the fact that he just may be a poeser as the Vicar of Christ?

Isaiah 42:8

“I am the Lord: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images.”

Actually, any reasonably well-taught Catholic knows tsat climate science per se is outside of the pope's competence; and on topics outside his competence he has as much claim to authority as has the butcher, the baker and the candlestick-maker.

Well there’s that and I fully expect the INQUISITION to resume shortly. The church set civilization back a thousand years last time. With a dumbass like this shooting his mouth off We should be back to the last ice age soon enough. The popester needs to clean up his own pedophile mess before screwing with the rest of us.

Wow. Pope Francis is also a scientist? Where did he get his degree? When does he have time to do scientific research? What scientific methods did he use to come to this astonishing conclusion?

Yes, but do you have to be Catholic to elect a Pope?

Is there any way we can trade this Pope in for a new Pope that knows when to STFU?

And how many of those would be "true Scotsmen"? The description sounds a bit Scottish...

About half of American [Roman] Catholics vote for the climate ninny, chicken little support apparatus, otherwise known as the Democrat Party. (the apparatus supports ninnys and chickens -- not the sky).

So much for "well taught".

Evangelicals, even those who are merely descended from Scotsmen (some of whom now live in Appalachian mobile home parks) are apparently blessed with superior political instincts.

Not all of the so-called "Protestants" could be regarded as Evangelical though. The 8-12% who consistently vote for the Wrong Party are generally not Evangelical.

(I always wondered why, from when I was just a wee lad, the high- church Episcopalian types seemed like foreigners is some way...now I understand a little better as for that "why". Some of them actually like movies such as Rocky Horror Picture Show. I mean, reaaly like it.)

Now if we could just do something about the prosperity-gospel, stealth cargo-cultists on the t.v., and tamp down the big hair crowd (send a few of them through good 'ol automated car-warshes to scrub off the layers of pancake make-up, while we'd be doing this tamping down thing) then as we [ahem] 'progress' along the pathways of The Fall of the Roman Empire, Part Deux, we all, as Americans, could hold our heads up a little higher (fwiw -- which if the whole things crashes, the overall "worth" would be---> not much).

Never fails: make an insightful comment people don’t like and they want you shut down, calling you names.

You should listen to your critics - they just might be right.

Don’t have to go very far through this thread to see that there are a lot of bigots here on FR making the Democrat claims appear to be true.

Re: a pope helping Nazis
That was all nonsense. Pius 12 saved thousands of Jews and took countless risks to oppose Hitler. Beware of false history; a favorite tool of evil.

Thank you for the critique of the suspiciously scottish-sounding phrase "reasonably well-taught Catholic," although I don't think it'd true-scotsman as much as a practical synonym. What the Catholic Church teaches is knowable (check the catechism), and knowing this is part of what we call "reasonably well taught" by definition.

As for Caths who endorse various stupidities in the Democratic platform --- or who go along with the inanities of certain top House Republicans -- they can't support that by catechism, nor are such subjects within the scope of the pope's competence.

But your remarks are well-meant and smilingly received.

As for the Protestant cargo cults and their wives with the big hair...

Climatology is not within papal competence.

Neither is diplomacy.

But please undersand that it's papal idiocy and error which makes Infallibiloty so important, for it merely makes the guarantee that erroneous papal opinions (and he's go a bunch of them) will not become binding as part of doctrine.

It works only negatively: it is pretty satisfactorily explained by the following video from the Bad Catholics Bingo Hall (YouTube) which shows a curious connection between papal error and myocardial infarction.

(For your viewing pleasure. I will not mind of you laugh out loud.)
