President Obama signed a memorandum Thursday granting paid leave for federal workers after the birth of a child. But the rest of what he wants requires Congress to pass legislation
Washington President Obama is announcing several initiatives Thursday aimed at helping working parents.
One was achieved by executive action: Thursday morning, the president signed a memorandum that grants federal workers six weeks of paid leave after the birth or adoption of a child, plus the right to six additional weeks of unpaid leave. The directive also applies to federal workers caring for ailing family members.
Beyond that, Mr. Obama needs the cooperation of the Republican-controlled House and Senate. He will call on Congress to pass the Healthy Families Act, which would allow American workers to earn up to seven days a year of paid sick time. And in his fiscal 2016 budget proposal, to be released Feb. 2, Obama will include $2.2 billion in mandatory funding to reimburse states that set up family leave programs.

Well, obviously you didn't read provision 27C of paragraph 87,309 of subsection 187,314 of section 376 of part 76-B of the Affordable Healthcare Act (revision 18-F of 2014, 3rd amendment).
Congress has no power any more.
More taxpayer dollars down the pisser.
The wannabe dictator says it must be.
Pretty much, yeah.
And as long as no one in the legislative branch (”the lawmakers”) challenges him—”Hey bud! Whaddya think you’re doing ‘passing laws’?!—he’ll keep doing it.
“”does this violate FLMA ?””
I don’t have a clue but then neither does the jerk yakking about it. I thought FLMA took care of all that!!!!
FMLA guarantees a certain amount of time off without loosing a job. But it is not required to be PAID time off.
Since federal employees are special (/s)..this all makes perfect sense.
This action is nothing more than a vote-buying scam by the dems. After all, what federal worker, after getting benefit after benefit from the fedgov itself, would ever vote for someone who advocated rolling back such government largess?
Its like Mark Levin says: The democrats are the party of government.
Why not? It’s not his money anyway.
The government will pay them the same $$$ that they would if they had to come to work so it didn't require any special funding.,
Of course the GOP cant say much about it after paying them to be off for an extra two weeks during the shutdown in the first two weeks of October 2013, the best weather time to get two weeks off at taxpayer expense.
That did get a special funding bill since there was no budget in law at the time, and who in GOP opposed it?
The work needs to get done. They will have to hire extra staff or pay OT.
At least that how it works in the private sector.
If Chaz and his husband Jeff adopt a little baby do they both get 6 weeks off?
“The work needs to get done. “
Maybe not-—this IS the government we’re talking about.
.
Exactly, the slippery slope.
And how about if someone has a "disability" and needs to adopt a "service animal" to help them "cope".
Why shouldn't they also not get paid time off?
Lord, what happened to my Country?
Bingo, now you hit on why the two shutdowns in 1995/1996 and 2013 looked so stupid.
Shutting down the government to pay government workers huge salaries to do anything they want instead of having to work(or even go to work) , while we get forced to pay for it, makes them look like idiots.
What conservatives principles was that?

The principles found at Disneyland.
Just increased federal workers benefits. FMLA change would effect all of America’s workers. He hasn’t pushed that far, yet.
Need bleach for my eyes!
On the plus side, no one will notice, but it will PO their colleagues, introducing them to the glories of socialism.
Thanks.
Aren’t Fed jobs already covered under FLMA ?
Course, I suppose an employer can “enhance” on their own.
This is paid leave.
