Obama to push for mandatory paid leave
The Hill ^ | January 14, 2015 | Lydia Wheeler

Posted on 01/14/2015 2:57:20 PM PST by jazusamo

The White House will announce a major push Thursday to require paid leave for American workers.

In a blog post on LinkedIn Wednesday, Valerie Jarrett, a senior advisor to the President, said Obama will sign a memorandum to ensure federal employees have access to at least six weeks of paid sick leave when a new child arrives.

The president will also call on Congress to offer six weeks of paid administrative leave.

“We can't say we stand for family values when so many women in this country have to jeopardize their financial security just to take a few weeks off of work after giving birth,” Jarrett said in the release.

“We can't say we're for middle-class stability when a man has to sacrifice his economic security to care for his ailing mother.”

Obama will also pressure Congress to pass the Healthy Families Act, which will give Americans the ability to earn seven days of paid sick leave, and announce additional funding through the Department of Labor to help states study how to create their own paid leave programs.

The announcement comes two days after The Hill reported that Democrats are seizing mandatory paid leave as their next big pocketbook issue in 2016.

Out of 185 countries and territories in the world surveyed by the International Labor Organization, the United States is one of only two that does not offer paid maternity leave. Papua New Guinea is the other.

Federal employees already get 10 holidays off, plus 13 days of sick leave, and very generous annual leave (13.5 days for those with over 3 years service; 26 days after you reach 15 years). So most employees are getting AT LEAST 36.5 days a year off, if they use all their sick leave.

Federal employees also get lots of other time away from the office for training and to attend conferences.

Its a cushy life for them. They don’t need anymore time off.

All this is just a test for when he drops the big on in Nov 2016 $1T as reparations for slavery.

And how will Congress approve this spending?

Perhaps Obozo will sign an E.O. allowing only the Congressional Black Caucasians to vote on black issues.

Guess what? A baby needs as much care at 17 weeks, at 6 months, and at two years. And the ailing mother, until she takes her Last Obama Pill, will still be ailing after those weeks as well. What is the point?

All these programs are abused. Someone with twins - do they get 30 weeks off? Someone with a father who is ailing in another state and they are not in contact - can he kick back on the beach for a few months?

Six weeks paid maternity leave for US government workers? They already earn 4 to 6 hours of sick leave with every two week pay period that can be banked and used for illness or maternity/paternity leave. To promise them an additional 6 weeks of pay is a burden on we tax payers and something most who don’t work for government do not get while working in the private sector.

State employees are in the same line.

If you were one of the favored ones, you could come and go pretty much as you pleased, lie on your time sheets, get some pad on either side of trips or classes and whine about how much vacation time you had to use or lose.

If you weren’t like me. Every entry on a time sheet with accompanying time off requests had better add up, any work related travel is strict day in and day out. I don’t miss that life.

Oh, too bad. I thought he was pushing for his own mandatory paid leave. I’m sure everyone would go along with that, no questions asked.

so do I like paid leave?
sure!

but it has to be earned...not dictated from WashDC...
if earned, it works for the worker and employer alike
if dictated, the jobs get eliminated... and the workers all get to live on the dole

which is, of course, the true objective of this proposal...
to create more and more people who are utterly dependent on Obama’s welfare program
while
further weakening America in the process

Two birds for O.,... in one gesture...

Note that the states have never delegated to Congress, expressly via the Constitution, the specific power to make laws to establish employee benefits for intrastate workers.

But even if the states had delegated such powers to Congress, it remains that Congress cannot constitutionally delegate its legislative powers to the Oval Office. So constitutionally lawless Obama is once again trying to steal 10th Amendment-protected state powers to win votes for corrupt Democrats, this time by trying to give paid leave to intrastate workers.

Yep - El Rushbo predicted this when the Family Medical Leave Act was being debated and passed.

The Democrats just can’t seem to get enough of giving away other peoples’ money.

Ptui!

Your condition of employment, in most jobs, is that you produce for the company. If you are not producing for the company, you get demotions, pay cuts, and terminations.

Obama, Democrats, and all the other Liberal leftists actually believe that the role of businesses is to create jobs and give away benefits!

They truly do not understand, nor care, about the risk takers, business owners, and actual company!! When they finally create enough rules that businesses stop creating jobs, we will have the same economic malaise and stagnation that has been hampering the semi-socialist countries in Europe!

Hey, Obama, if I wanted to live like a French man, I would move to France!!
