Two problems: first, that this administration is profoundly ideological in a way that no previous administration has been, and that ideology holds the military in contempt; second, that 0bama is a non-veteran with the worst political tin ear in memory - the picture of the Marine holding the umbrella is a perfect example but there are many, many others. It doesn’t take a lot to keep morale up, even Clinton managed it more or less, heck, even Carter managed it, but whether it’s an overinflated sense of self-importance or simple, stubborn disrespect, 0bama just can’t seem to keep from stepping on his...ah...shoelaces.
Carter kept the morale up in the military? That is not what those I went to school with who joined the military after school said. And the biggest reason I did not join.
