Lena Dunham is from an extremely wealthy Manhattan family. The message from the elite right now is “we don’t want to be constrained by any morality whatsoever, although we still want to retain our status as being among the elite.”
In the past, the aristocracy thought it needed to provide a moral example to the nation. They no longer feel any such need. They figure if they squawk about racism and sexism enough, they’ll make just enough of the rest of the country think they care about their interests to support policies that favor the elite.
we dont want to be constrained by any morality whatsoever, although we still want to retain our status as being among the elite. = Rome circa 200 A.D.
Correction: The elite don’t want restrictions on what perverts do. They don’t want their spouses or kids being involved but if some lower class ham-and-egger gets AIDS, so what?
My impression of aristocracy has always been of sexual abuse with authority, extreme promiscuity and perversion, underage sex and in-breeding. And, oh, the APPEARANCE of being genteel. Lovers on the side, boinking the “help” and the cousins, etc. No?
