Romney's sudden move into 2016 talks a "conundrum" for some former aides

Mitt Romney has stopped Jeb Bush from locking down a significant faction of deep-pocketed Republican donors and top presidential campaign staffers, for the moment.

But money and talent won’t stay frozen for long. And multiple Republican insiders said Monday that Romney has a short window of time in which he has to make a decision about whether to mount a third run for the White House — or let the dream of the presidency go forever.

One 2012 Romney aide said the former Massachusetts governor might need to make up his mind in the next week. Most people who spoke with Yahoo News said Romney probably can wait a few weeks before the 2012 Republican presidential nominee starts losing support he’d need to mount a credible campaign. One GOP operative pegged Romney’s speech at Mississippi State University on Jan. 28 as a deadline of sorts.

Operatives who are being courted by both Romney and former Florida governor Jeb Bush have told Romney that the clock is ticking.

"I think Romney is an excellent executive and could be a good leader. He identifies issues and gets things accomplished."

I keep hearing that, but if he was such a worldbeating executive and leader in Massachusetts, why did he leave it in such sorry shape?

And why couldn't he even manage to run his own campaign in 2012?

He's a sock puppet with 1950s hair.

I’m glad I’m not the only one who saw the difference between the 1st debate and the next two. It was indeed a stark contrast.

The only way Romney could have appeared any limper in the next two debates would have been by laying on the floor with his tongue hanging out.

No, you weren’t the only one to notice.
Quite a few of us noticed.
*hat tip*
The Romneybots in forum, though, flipped out every time it was pointed out that Romney fought lightyears harder against Republicans than he ever fought against Obama.
*shrugs*

That is what makes it so difficult to understand.

He showed he could hit high and low but then he completely folded.

Was there some behind the scenes force brought into play?

But if there was some hidden vulnerability, why would he think of running again?

It all just does not add up.

The only way Romney could have appeared any limper in the next two debates would have been by laying on the floor with his tongue hanging out.

In fact, Mitt Romney was so riven by conflicting desires that he deserved a Faye Dunaway Award (named for her “She’s my sister! She’s my daughter!” rant in Chinatown) for his “Make me president! Don’t let me be president!” ambivalence. He expressed it passive-aggressively, by allowing himself to be bullied ever farther to the right during the primaries—even as he bullied his opponents personally from still farther right. It made him seem both weak and nasty.

And you could see the ambivalence in his body language. When Mitt walks forward, his short, halting steps seem to pull him back, turning a brief trip to the microphone into a parody of a middle-aged white person moon-walking. On stage, during debates, he’d often look on wistfully, almost dreamily, at the other candidates while they spoke, as if he’d be “ecstatic,” as Tagg says, if only somebody like that could win the coveted office.

Apparently he wants to focus on his hobby.
Which is getting undue adulation from idiots, and running spoiler campaigns in politics.
He is a political drama queen.

Amorphous, jiggly, and gelatinous in his properties.

In my opinion, a big government republican would actually be worse than a big government democrat. If we allow Obamacare and the massive Obama deficits to stand during a republican presidency, those disasters will stand for as long as the United States survives, which will not be long.

Romney, another Bush, Rubio, and Christie are completely and totally unacceptable. America’s best hope is electing a small government conservative as president, and even that may not save the country. Our second best hope would at best be extremely ugly - the last time states chose to separate from the Union was almost as destructive as Obamacare. I pray that we can avoid a second civil war.

I never doubted for a second Mitt would run. He thinks he got cheated out of the Presidency in 2012 and he probably did. He is not about to let Jebbie step in and grab the nomination.

DOA. Gruber-gate.

From 2012 (even before Gruber-gate) ...

Republicans cannot credibly run on repealing Obamacare with Romney as the nominee.
