Down in Oklahoma, many Cherokees owned black slaves. Upon emancipation they were considered to be members of the Cherokee tribe. I believe the Cherokees tossed them off not long ago. Didn’t want to divvy up all that Casino money.;-)
And this is why I can’t stand Glenn Beck. He is such an idiot! I will not even watch this movie if it was free. No thanks!
I have not seen the movie so I cannot comment on its content.
I would truly be shocked if it covers the dark side.
It would be politically incorrect if it did and it would it tarnish the image which has been so carefully crafted for decades.
Much like with the Kennedys. However, at least with the Kennedys, the truth did eventually come out, even if it took a while.
Martyrdom does not equal sainthood IMHO.
King and the Kennedys were no saints.
“He called the movie a firehose on Ferguson and other issues. Firehose? Really? Does he ever think before he opens his mouth?”
It seems a lot of people miss the irony.
Good catch.
I think Beck has only one goal.
Get Romney elected President.
12 Years a slave was a true story and excellent to boot. I bought it because it was so good. I thought if we forget history we are bound to repeat it.......I hear that a lot around here. I guess if depends on the agenda.
Standard behavior for Beck, who views leftwing radical Martin Luther King as some kind of demigod hero.
The other day I turned on Beck’s radio show at the top of the hour to see if I could catch him saying anything crazy. His bumper music was playing, and it was the most Godawful caterwauling I have ever heard...some person of undetermined gender wailing plaintively about “we all want to be loved.”
Beck makes me ill...I feel sorry for his wife, dealing with that quivering testosterone-deprived lump.
How can we forget it, when it’s shoved down our throat every single day.
Remember the Titans??? WTF are you talking about? That is a movie about football just like rudy. Hard work and you win.
I saw “Selma.” One word perfectly describes it: “BOOOOORINNNG!” Only two parts of the movie were interesting. The attack on the bridge and the Selma march at the end. However, both events are much more interesting when watching the archival news footage of each.
“Not perfect?”
He was a leftwing radical through and through. who slandered our troops (called them war criminals) and said that the United States was the greatest purveyor of evil in the world.
He was a “minister” who didn’t believe in the deity of Jesus, and believed all religions were equal.
I doubt they addressed any of that, since to the liberals who made the movie, that sort of thing isn’t a flaw, but a mark of character.
What? You'll pay for a limo to take me to the theater AND an unlimited supply of popcorn?
Nope...still not interested.
Because I believe that 90% of Glenn Beck's efforts are constructive, I tried to address his fascination with King, a few years back, as gently as possible. (See "Honor & Martin Luther King", which never mentions Beck by name, but addresses his fallacy, directly.)
King was all about dependence on Government; all about exploitation of the grievance mentality--the standard method by which demagogues have misled the susceptible, throughout history. He was also firmly against our efforts to contain the Communist threat, both at home and abroad; and carefully instructed in techniques of agitation by Communists & Fellow Travellers.
If Beck wants to identify with a true champion of the legitimate interests of Black Americans, he ought to stop the adulation for MLK, and look more closely at Booker T. Washington & George Washington Carver, men who were not trying to undermine the fundamental values on which America was premised. Men who articulated values that they actually lived by.
William Flax
You nailed it Catherine!
Not a chance that I would trust Beck on anything or that I would waste my $$$$ enriching Oprah.
I just don’t care. I am so tired of this race obsessed country.
I don’t want to see a movie about racism.
The subject doesn’t matter to me.
People are, always have been and always will be racist. It is an innate characteristic of people, much like violence is.
Civilization affords us the luxury of lessening the influence of those characteristics, but remove that civilization, and I guarantee you that the negative characteristics of mankind would be front and center.
Kowtowing to the black crowd.
