House votes down ObamaCare’s 30-hour workweek, 252-172
The Hill ^ | January 8, 2015 | By Sarah Ferris and Cristina Marcos

The House on Thursday in a 252-172 vote approved legislation that would waive fees on businesses that do not offer health insurance to employees working fewer than 40 hours per week.

The legislation – which has been at the center of a heavy corporate lobbying campaign – only received 12 Democratic votes. Eighteen Democrats backed the bill during a House vote on the same issue last spring.

No Republicans opposed the measure.

The White House has threatened to veto the bill, which strikes at the healthcare law’s mandate that businesses provide insurance.

The legislation is the GOP’s first chance to deliver an anti-ObamaCare bill to the president’s desk. It will now advance to the Senate, where Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has promised it will see a vote.

Republicans said the current statute gives employers an incentive to cut workers' hours to avoid paying fines as a result of the healthcare law. The healthcare law imposes fees on businesses that do not provide health insurance to employees who work 30 hours per week.

“The law punishes employers who provide workers with full-time jobs,” said House Education and the Workforce Committee Chairman John Kline (R-Minn.).

Mark Steyn called socialized healthcare the game-changer. Once passed, we become a socialist state. From then on the policy debate will only be in nibbling around the edges. It won’t be repealed.

This is nibbling around the edges.

Show vote.

Barack Oboehner funded Obamacare through 2015. We aren’t all Grubers.

I could quite happily watch most of the house and senate being tried and executed. Oh well. Eat, drink and be merry for tomorrow we die.

Thank you. In that case we should inform our representatives, and refuse to comply. Simple, is it not? No, not really as that puts our lives, our fortunes, and our reputations at stake. Funny, I remember reading something similar in a declaration somewhere. My how times have changed.

Very simple. He will claim that it benefits business by allowing them to deny the “basic right” of healthcare to their employees. The media will willingly parrot Obama’s claims, probably using the same language. The bottom line is this is theater for low information voters. If they intended to accomplish anything, this should have been in the omnibus bill they passed in December. It is all talking points.

Wouldn’t a full repeal be filibustered?

Well Jim, this is the way I see it.

Work 29 hours and no benefits, or work 39 hours and no benefits.

If I’m digging and a scratching for work, give me the latter.

It took me 15 years to get a job with a decent 401 and health plan and that took some faith.

so, the next scheduled recess, the House & Senate decides to keep 3 each D.C. in D.C. to hold pro-forma sessions.
It stops Presidential recess appointments. Can they
also pass legislation - override a veto ?

The House doesn’t have filibusters, but such votes as this will never become law. The American people fixed it where 1/3 plus one of one house rule for the next two years, nothing more.

Don’t you think it’s already been predetermined thAt like Nixon in 1968 “Jebbie’s the One” in 2016. I am expecting 2016 to be an unusually liberal year for the American people.

Not enough of the American people want to do anything that would bring true “hope and change”.

They would need a quorum, at minimum a simple majority of the total body.

Currently I believe a quorum is 217 or more.

If the “O” is forced into using his VETO pen over and over, people are going to start to wake up - especially since so many dems are also voting with the pubbies.

It will finally become apparent that we have a tin-pot “diktater” in the WH

The Dems like to call the Repubs the “party of no”; however, they are about to become the “party of veto” when Obama the dick-tator uses his infamous pen over and over and over again.
