“...one Houston airport was renamed Mickey Leland International.”

***********

Actually it was Terminal D at the Houston Intercontinential Airport that was named
the Mickey Leland Terminal. True the City Council entertained the idea but
didn’t name the entire airport as such.

“Councilman Jim Westmoreland, who is white, was reported to have suggested to a writer for The Houston Post on Oct. 18 that Houston’s primary airport be renamed ‘’Nigger International’’ to appease Council members who were trying to rename it for Congressman Mickey Leland...”

At the time our flight was connecting from Atlanta to Cancun so maybe we were in the international concourse the whole time while waiting.

The words “Mickey Leland International” were in big letters on the concourse walls. Terminal D also went by another name which I won’t mention but included the word “International”.
