Kristof: We "Have To Be Careful Not To Respond To Intolerance of Jihadis With Our Own Intolerance"

New York Times columnist Nicholas Kristof warns "we have to be very, very careful not to engage in religious profiling and to recognize that one can't blame 1.6 billion adherents of this vast and complex religion."

"One can't blame this event on all of them. One has to acknowledge that the Taliban folks who is shot Malala [Yousafzai] are one element of Islam and Malala herself is another. And this is a religion that contains multitudes," Kristof said Thursday afternoon on CNN.

Kristof also warned of society's tendacy to "otherize" people.

"I think we have a tendency to otherize people, if you will, of a different race, a different religion, a different ethnicity and then to perceive events into a narrative of threat and this is a very natural human thing," Kristol said. "And I must say when I travel around the Mideast, I sit down in mosques and hear clerics concoct these extraordinary sort of paranoid visions of America because every data point that they get plugs into this stereotype that they have and they otherize us. I think we really, really have to be careful not to respond to the extraordinary intolerance of these jihadis with our own intolerance."

Isn’t every shooting by some lunatic the NRA’s fault or Sarah Palin’s fault? I am sick and tired of these spawns of Satan pretending to tell us how they will stop Islamic terrorism — especially since they don’t mention the elephant in the room: Islam!

There isn’t a place on Earth that wouldn’t be better off had Islam never shown up.

Just think: what would Somalia be like today if it had always been a Christian nation?

They don’t dislike liberty and freedom so much as they viscerally hate Christianity and seek its destruction.

That’s why you see the weird alliance of secularist/atheists, homosexuals, and Muslims.

Better intolerantly alive than tolerantly dead, and better intolerantly free than tolerantly repressed.

Better to be alive and hated by the "New York Times" than dead and and still hated by the drive by media; e.g., Sen. Joseph McCarthy.

A vastly superior mind that the NYT scribbler had this to say about Islam:

“How dreadful are the curses which Mohammedanism lays on its votaries! Besides the fanatical frenzy, which is as dangerous in a man as hydrophobia in a dog, there is this fearful fatalistic apathy. The effects are apparent in many countries. Improvident habits, slovenly systems of agriculture, sluggish methods of commerce, and insecurity of property exist wherever the followers of the Prophet rule or live. A degraded sensualism deprives this life of its grace and refinement; the next of its dignity and sanctity. The fact that in Mohammedan law every woman must belong to some man as his absolute property‹either as a child, a wife, or a concubine‹must delay the final extinction of slavery until the faith of Islam has ceased to be a great power among men. Individual Moslems may show splendid qualities. Thousands become the brave and loyal soldiers of the Queen; all know how to die; but the influence of the religion paralyses the social development of those who follow it. No stronger retrograde force exists in the world. Far from being moribund, Mohammedanism is a militant and proselytizing faith. It has already spread throughout Central Africa, raising fearless warriors at every step; and were it not that Christianity is sheltered in the strong arms of science‹the science against which it had vainly struggled‹the civilisation of modern Europe might fall, as fell the civilisation of ancient Rome.”

In light of the above, who understands Islam better, Sir Winston Churchill or scribbler Nicholas Kristof?

why do we have to tolerate their intolerance? We’re not allowed to draw attention to their intolerance? Where do we see tolerance in the entire Islamic world except where some strong secular leader imposes it?

I think you meant to write KristoF not [Irving] KristoL, my friend. I can imagine Kristoff saying something this evil and stupid, but not the late Irving Kristol, z'l.

recognize that one can't blame 1.6 billion adherents of this vast and complex religion.

Well I think that we can...And should...

Seems strange that in almost every single poll in the arab world, arab support of terrorism is always around 80%. I challenge anyone to find a poll that says otherwise. 80% of 1.6 billion is 1.28 billion. It appears that one can, indeed, blame the adherents referred to. We really have short memories to forget the thousands of Palestinians celebrating in the streets after our 9/11 tragedy. Many other examples are there for all to see.

75 years ago Kristof would have been saying “Don’t blame all the Nazis for the actions of a few! There are moderate Nazis, good Nazis.”

When General Jackson was asked by one of his officers what could be done about those Evil Yankees looting after winning a battle; his response was, “KILL’EM KILL’EM ALL”.
So of course we should love and forgive all of our enemies, just as soon as we “KILL’EM KILL’EM ALL”.

“Love your enemies.”

Isn’t that in the Bible?

The problem is that these asshats haven’t even figured out yet that they will be some of the first to be beheaded.

"New York Times columnist Nicholas Kristof warns "we have to be very, very careful not to engage in religious profiling and to recognize that one can't blame 1.6 billion adherents of this vast and complex religion.""

Nicholas Kristof: You still haven't shown enough respect to the adherents of Islam. Bend over lower and spread your cheeks farther apart.

Name another religion or faux-relion that has beheaded people in the twenty-first Century.

Nuke Mecca from space. It is the only way to be sure. They will NEVER stop until we show we can be MORE ruthless then they can.

The statement is true that “Islam is a religion of peace (but they all never finish the sentence) if you are a Muslim”, all others must submit, pay a fine or DIE. Your choice.
