Breaking Through the Politics of Fear and Self Preservation

Amidst the numerous commentaries and perspectives on the recent battle for the Speaker of the House, there is one simple, yet overlooked, observation. Some of the most conservative members buckled under pressure, political bribes, threats, and cajoling to vote for John Boehner (R-OH), thereby denying their fellow patriots the last votes needed to force monumental change. On the other hand, several more moderate members, including Rep. Chris Gibson (R-NY) – a member with a 45%-F Liberty Score – voted against Boehner.

What’s more ironic and devastating to conservatives is that defeat was snatched from the jaws of victory by the freshmen conservatives – the very people who were elected, and indeed committed – as the impetus for this effort.

What gives?

Put simply, Chris Gibson has just announced his retirement, so he was free to vote his conscience without fear of reprisal. These conservative “rock stars” with promising political futures ahead of them feared losing leadership campaign cash, committee assignments, and polite company more than the unanimous view of their constituents and their own good conscious. We have reached a tipping point when fear and self-preservation within the Potomac Swamp is more powerful than any core conviction or public demand.

Amazingly, this entire fight for the speakership was a success with the American people, but a self-fulfilling circuitous cycle of failure among the politicians. If every person who claimed to oppose Boehner would have joined the original 15 heroes before the vote, this thing would have broken wide open and Boehner would have gone down before it reached the floor. Nobody disputes that, as witnessed by the number of moderates who were willing to join.

Every one of those traitorous freshman congressmen should be primaries in two years. They lied to their constituents when they campaigned and cannot be trusted. Their seat should be held by someone with genuine conservative principles.

Not with the army you want, but with the army you have.

We have John Boehner as our marshal in this battle. Weak reed though he may be to lean upon, at this point, he has to be rallied to get out there ahead of the troops and LEAD. There should be no allegiance to the Current Occupant of the White Hut. This is supposed to be the “United States of America”, after all, so let us recover that territory for its original purpose - to be a beacon for the rest of the world.

We are not the world’s catchbasin for all the poisons and dregs of society, as that only contaminates us further. We, as Americans, have something of value in this world, in many ways totally unique in history. It has been diluted, and sometimes invalidated, by the actions of clumsy and unloving hands, and this abuse needs to STOP.

John Boehner may have been compromised by some secret of his past that opposition has discovered, and is being used to keep the resistance to the Current Regime’s agenda under control. If the Speaker has some such secret, reveal it now, get it into the open, and destroy its value as an instrument of blackmail. Forgiveness is a viable alternative at this stage, and shall, in a sort of perverse manner, serve to restore the stature of the Speaker, while depriving the opposition of their last set of tools for coercion.

Stop sugar coating a turd. Boner should have lost his Speakership with the underhanded things that went on in late Nov and Dec. That is a fact.

And look at the speed with which boehner heaps punishment on the handful of conservative adversaries. The seniority/patronage system in both houses is corrupt and broken.

GOPe & Chamber of Commerce agenda.
1. Off load corporate health care costs on to the U.S. Tax Payer via Obama Care.
2. Off load the corporate tax burden to the U.S. middle class.
3. Depress high tech salaries by importing foreign labor.
4.Depress entry level and skilled trade wages by importing foreign labor.
5.Off load manufacturing to lower wage nations as much as possible.
6.Work with the other party as a partner rather than opponent in running the Federal Government.

"..Their seat should be held by someone with genuine conservative principles.."

Not being a wizeazz, but just who would that be anymore? Voting seems like shampoo instructions, and gets less done best I can tell. I'm again coming to the same conclusions I did back in the "Clinton" years when that administration's BS was a daily case of heartburn.
While it sounds a l'il apathetic, if someone asked me "So, what's the difference in your daily life?" after any of these "events" from way-back-then to right now, I'd be hard pressed to come up with an answer outside of being ticked, saddened, or a l'il "stocking up" on a few things like anybody in a hurricane zone should do.
Not sure if my "activism" came to naught, or was contributory in the way that a-face-in-the-crowd is. Either way it's frustrating and seems suspiciously irrelevant. Just like this latest venture in politics. The politicians being Lucy-with-her-football, and us "folks" being Charlie Brown... again.

Mia Love was a tremendous disappointment to me. Although not in her state, I sent in support for her campaign. If anyone could oppose Boehner and get away with it, I figured she was the one. After all, she has two “get out of jail” cards courtesy of gender and race. She’s put herself in a hole and only time will tell if she can climb out, but for now I’m very disappointed as are my friends and family in Utah.

Reminiscent of the Soviets under Stalin or of Imperial Rome.

What a fantastically naive statement. Fear and greed with a smattering of ideology has long been the status quo in Congress. With the occasional exception to the rule, of course.
