Oh, you dont say!
In all seriousness, many conservatives will be taking a serious look at Gov. Scott Walker (R-WI) in 2016. Hes effective, hes conservative, and he knows how to put together winning coalitions. His most recent electoral romp, however, is an absolute game-changer -- and why wouldnt it be?
Hes now won an impressive number of state-wide elections since 2010. Arguably, hes the most despised Republican governor in America (on the Left). So whats not to like?
But, dear reader, will he make the leap? Asked recently if he had once and for all quelled those rumors, he told Salem radio host Hugh Hewitt the following (via Truth Revolt):
Has Gov. Walker Ruled out a presidential run in 2016?: 'Absolutely not'
Oh, absolutely not. I mean, its one of those where I very much believe that our next president should be a governor. And I think you look at the mess in Washington, and you realize we need leaders from outside of our nations capital, and we need people who have been successful. And I think with what Ive had to go through in the last four years, both politically, but also in terms of the policies, certainly I feel that theres a reason God put me in a spot to do the things that weve done and take on the kind of challenges weve done. And its certainly something Im going to take seriously, and really look at it closely over the next month or two.
His response tells us three things: First, hes seriously considering running for president, but perhaps more importantly, he wants everyone to know it. In other words, he's eager to put out feelers and test the waters. Second, hes outright implying, if not downright suggesting, that candidates like Marco Rubio, Ted Cruz, and Rand Paul are probably unqualified to be president. The nation needs a governor to take the reins in 2016, you see, not an untested Washington legislator. And finally, his response is a subtle reminder that, not unlike Mike Huckabee and Rick Perry, hes a devout and serious Christian.
Why does this matter? Well, if youre a Republican primary voter whos undecided and wants an experienced, electable, and accomplished man of faith to win the nomination, who better to support than the Republican governor of Wisconsin?
That, if anything, seems to be the message Walker himself is attempting to convey.
Or a solicitor general.
You're right, guv.....................
Should he or she also have a college degree?
No more Republicans for me. If he wants my vote, he’d better run in a third party. He should just save his money and time. Jeb Bush will be the nominee of the Red Division of the Uniparty.
No lawyers.
No Ivy Leaguers.
28 years straight is enough.
Just a 4 year interlude, please.
Walker/Cruz? Cruz could get experience as VP then run (and win) after Walker’s 2nd term - just tossing that out to FReeperland whilst I ponder it so more.
Because Presidents with college degrees have done so well...
(Note, Walker’s not necessarily my first pick)
I couldn’t find anything about George Washington having a college degree
Our next POTUS needs to control the border. Walker is an unlikely candidate to do so. He,s more like Ron Johnson and Paul Ryan.
Your list plus;
Not a current senator (sorry Ted)
Not a current congressman
Military service
Has owned or run a private sector business
Loves the United States (yes, you have to add that now)
That would be a great choice for conservatives. I would vote 3rd party with them on the ticket.
They can't even get elected to the House or Senate
I’m glad to have him in the mix. I will be seriously considering him if he runs.
More importantly, should he or she be pro-amnesty/open borders?
No, I didn’t think so.
No to Scott Walker.
No thanks.
Just today, Marco Rubio pulled a "Scott Walker" and any Repug that is soft on queer marriages is useless.
You’re delusional if you think you’re ever going to get some representation from a Republican. Unless, the Republicans are representing you. Then you should go right ahead and keep voting for them.
Ill vote for him.
