Anti-Boehner Rebels Come Up Short - But Was Stronger Than Expected

House Speaker John Boehner (R., Ohio) was reelected to his post as leader of the Republican conference, but the rebellion was stronger than expected.
Boehner received 215 votes, of 408 votes cast. He needed 205 to win the speakership. Twenty-four Republicans voted for alternatives, with a 25th lawmaker voting present. Half of those no votes went to Representative Daniel Webster (R., Fla.), who was backed by Representative Steve King (R., Iowa.) King was one of the ringleaders of the rebellion.
The race was closer than the 215-24 result suggests. If 35 Republicans had voted against Boehner, he would not have received a majority of the votes and the question would have gone to a second ballot, which the rebels hoped would effectively deny him the speakership.
If all 435 House members had voted, the rebels would have needed just 29 votes to stop Boehner.

If a frog had wings, he wouldn’t have to hop.
Ultimately, votes matter.

So does the fact that 25 members voted against him give us any kind of leverage in the future.

Its time for a third party, folks. No ifs and or buts anymore. One to represent Main Street would get my vote. I say to all Republicans 'It's peace and the jobs economy, stupid'.

We need him to get that 22-million audiences ass in gear and primary every single one that voted for Boehner starting TODAY.
You are almost right, but this is the mistake. The Republican party cannot be changed from within. It is a full partner with the Democrats in fundamentally changing this country, and conservatives have no chance from within. Consider that in a blow out election, where 86% of the voters on the winning side oppose their own leadership, and yet barely 2 dozen votes can be scrounged up in opposition to that leadership. This was the high water mark for conservatives within the Republican party, and it was woefully short.
The only way that there is an opposition to liberalism is if conservative leaders do like leaders do, and have the courage to forge a new party, using a big chunk of those 86% of Republican voters as a base. Primaries are fool's gold, or, in this case, fool's copper.

I think the constitution party fits the bill. Take a look at it. As for me, I'm changing my registration, voting 3rd party; I will not waste another vote on a lying republican. Let others decide whether they want lying liberal republicans or honestly lying liberal democrats. After 50 years, my reliable republican vote is no more. I'm so disgusted I just want to break something!

Its time for a third party, folks. Actually, it's time for a second party which is already beginning to take shape.
The TExAs Party.
Based in proven Texas conservative principles, it can guide the nation.

Telephone Repairman
A Kansas farm wife called the local phone company to report her telephone failed to ring when her friends called - and that on the few occasions, when it did ring, her dog always moaned right before the phone rang.
The telephone repairman proceeded to the scene, curious to see this psychic dog or senile lady.
He climbed a telephone pole within a few feet of the backyard, hooked in his test set, and dialed the subscriber's house.
The phone didn't ring right away, but then the dog moaned and the telephone began to ring.
Climbing down from the pole, the telephone repairman found:
1 . The dog was tied to the telephone system's ground wire with a steel chain and collar.
2. The wire connection to the ground rod was loose.
3. The dog was receiving 90 volts of signaling current when the number was called.
4.. After a couple of jolts, the dog would start moaning and then urinate.
5. The wet ground would complete the circuit, thus causing the phone to ring.
Which demonstrates that some problems CAN be fixed by pissing and moaning.
Just thought you'd like to know.

Kudos to those who fought the battle. They alone can have any expectation of my support in future. The rest are not my countrymen.
