Boehner ally: GOP challenges to Speaker 'unprofessional' (Rep. Tom Cole, Okla.)
The Hill ^ | January 5, 2015 | David McCabe

Rep. Tom Cole (R-Okla.) called GOP challenges to Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) “pretty unprofessional and very disappointing” on Monday.

Cole, a close ally to Boehner, said the challenges aren’t serious and blasted Republicans trying to unseat the Speaker for not trying to do so when the GOP held its internal discussions late last year.

“Well, I don’t think they’re very serious,” he said while appearing on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe" of the bids by Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) and Rep. Ted Yoho (R-Fla.) to challenge Boehner for speakership. “And frankly, they’re pretty disappointing in the sense that anyone who wanted to run could have run in the conference elections and none of them did. So by going out and not voting for the conference choice, you’re not attacking John Boehner, you’re really attacking the Republican conference that you say you’re part of,” Cole said.

Gohmert, Yoho and other Boehner critics argue the Speaker didn’t do enough to stop President Obama’s executive action on immigration. Some conservatives wanted to withhold funding for the government over the order, which gave legal status to 4.5 million immigrants.

Several Republicans have joined the charge against Boehner, though it appears opponents remain short of the nearly 30 GOP votes they’d need to unseat him.

Incoming Rep. Barbara Comstock (R-Va.) said Sunday that she expected Boehner to be elected again.

“We voted in our conference in November, and … it was near unanimous,” she said on CNN’s “State of the Union” on Sunday. “I think there was one weak voice that didn't say, that may have said ‘nay.’ There hasn't been a campaign or any phone calls that anyone has received, so I expect that will move forward very smoothly.”

Attempted Republican Coup: Ready, Aim, Misfire

The gang that couldn’t shoot straight targets Newt Gingrich — but a G.O.P. upstart takes the hit instead

By James Carney/Washington

With reporting by Karen Tumulty/Washington

(TIME, July 28) — Congressman Tom Delay, the pest-control expert from Laredo, Texas, knows all about the black art of extermination. So how did the majority whip so thoroughly botch the job he undertook two weeks ago, when he tried to eradicate a king-size Newt?

In scheming to be rid of House Speaker Gingrich, DeLay and his co-conspirators showed all the talent for intrigue of Peter Sellers in his Pink Panther days. Depending on who’s doing the telling, the schemers included one, two or all three of the other House leaders ranked directly below the Speaker—majority leader Dick Armey, G.O.P. conference chairman John Boehner and leadership chairman Bill Paxon—not to mention 20 or more insurgents from the rank and file.

Tom Cole needs to spend some time reading the comments from the American people posted on John Boehner's Facebook page.

No kidding. They are pissed.

Now the GOPe is finally starting to get it.

Unfortunately, the chances of ousting Boehner are not very good IMHO. The GOP is what it is.

We elect Representatives to vote our interests and they go to DC and vote the leadership interest to benefit themselves. As of now, it appears there are only a dozen or so Republicans with enough honor to vote the interests of the people above their own self-interest.

Coburn has always been a toss-up.

Are you confusing Sen. Tom Coburn with Congressman Tom Cole? OK is prolly the most Conservative State in the United States; with the possible exception of Texas. Sounds like both of these “Toms” have betrayed the people of Oklahoma.

“unprofessional”

An argument used when you’ve got nothing else.

Business as usual. One could make a case that, in many respects, Republicans are more deceptive than Democrats.

Interesting. I've been trying to call the Capitol, it either rings once and dies, a recorded message and then dumps you, or no ring or answer.

In the fwiw department: U.S. Capitol 202.224.3121.

Try the individual offices. I was surprised to get through.

You can do it by name or state.

“Unprofessional” is precisely what we want, and professional politicians like this clown are the problem. Why doesn’t he go home and try to find work in a real profession?

Also, the conference vote happened before Obama’s caddy Benedict Boehner shamefully rammed through the Cromnibus.

Yep, its the time-tested use of the ad hominem attack. Kind of like when the facts are not on your side resort to attacking the credibility of the witness.
