New York City preschoolers will be heading back to class next week with memories of new holiday toys, vacation adventures, and, health officials hope, a flu shot.In fact, because of a new city requirement, young children can, for the first time in the city’s history, be excluded from class if they have not received a flu vaccination.
The new rule, which applies to some 150,000 children in city-licensed day care centers and preschools, was quietly adopted by the city’s Department of Health and Mental Hygiene in the waning days of Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg’s administration.

A sampling of flu cases so far this season suggests the current flu vaccine may not be a good match for the most common seasonal flu strain currently circulating in the United States, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said on Wednesday.
There are also concerns about the vaccine’s efficacy. In an average year, the vaccine is about 60 percent effective. Because of evolving strains of the virus, it is expected to be less so this year, the C.D.C. said.
What if the children are Obama air-dropped illegals? Do the same public health measures apply?
Thought I had read something where they were NOT suggesting flu shots for the very young or the elderly.

they care if citizen children have flu shots... but the illegals being shipped around the US to ‘fundamentally change the country’ have been infectious w/ disease and have never had any shots

Only the U.S. and Canada actually encourage everyone older than 6 months to get the flu vaccine.
Apparently, not a single country in Europe asks the general population to seek that same kind of protection, according to Robb Butler, the World Health Organization technical officer in vaccine preventable diseases and immunizations in the organization's Europe office in the Netherlands.
That's because global health experts say the data aren't there yet to support this kind of blanket vaccination policy

I hear there’s mercury in flu shots, so children have to be exposed to something potentially dangerous that does not work.
As for senior citizens, somebody was saying they should get pneumonia shots, because pneumonia is what could kill you, and they last ten years. Makes sense especially when you think the flu shots are not very effective.
The doctor gave me Tamiflu and between that and the vaccine, I had recovered in record time.
It was the shortest flu or cold I have ever knowingly had. My fever never went above that 101.7. My doctor didn't think I had the flu before I pushed her for the test, but I had the symptoms.

My dad also had flu A, typed at the docs as well. Ran fever of 99.5 for a half a day and had an annoying cough. Which is why he went to the the doc to begin with. Never felt ‘sick enough’ to have the flu either. Continued with his regular outdoor activities and rebuilt an engine on an 4 wheeler the day before he visited the doc.
Never had a flu shot.

This little girl got the flu shot and ended up infected with BOTH A and B simultaneously anyways.

This year’s shot isn’t protecting on the “A” strains 100%.
Yes, it’s possible to get multiple flu viruses at the same time. Yes, you can die from just one strain.
I got my shot before anyone had symptoms back in early October. I would guess this poor girl went to get the shot BECAUSE others in school already had it.
It takes several weeks for the vaccine to become effective.
I feel for her and her family.
We have no idea when she got the shot.
Most schools require it for attendance anymore. Depends on the state. My neices/nephews always got theirs a the back to school booster extravaganza in August/September.
Not only did this little tyke’s shot not protect her against ‘A’, it didn’t protect her against ‘B’ either.
Most of the kids who have died from this flu “epidemic” have been vaccinated. Makes you wonder, doesn’t it?
There’s a new pneumonia shot called Prevnar 13. My mom just got it.
