He was a liberal idiot. He actually PANNED Team America, and considered it pro-Bush propaganda -— TOTALLY missing the point of the brilliant satire. He always let his stupid politics intrude into his reviews.

"He also married a black woman."

Is that what makes him special with the media?

He hated conservatives, and got very vocal about his hatred in his last years.

Agreed. He was a complete jerk post 1999.

He also married a black woman.

So what. I know a conservative man who is married to a black lady.

It is a shame that Gene Siskel is now overshadowed by this ghost of a liberal.

Siskel was also a liberal, but he was nowhere as good a writer and critic as Ebert.

I meant it is part of the reason. I guess I am racist for noticing it, is that the implication?

He pioneered the modern form of film criticism and popularized it with the general public. Before Roger Ebert film critics were either shills for the studio (’the Warner Brothers have themselves a terrific picture here with box office potential’) or academic types coming from other fields who held the medium of film in not so veiled contempt (Dwight MacDonald). Ebert was a regular who knew a lot about movies and made informed arguing about them a passion with the general public.

Did you see it? Quite well done. Hard not to blubber. It was actually fairly critical too.
