Louie Gohmert Is Officially Gunning for John Boehner’s Job
The Blaze ^ | January 4, 2015 | Zach Noble

It’s official: House Speaker John Boehner has multiple challengers gunning for his job.

Texas Republican Louie Gohmert announced Sunday morning on Fox News’ “Fox and Friends” that he would throw his hat into the ring, saying he’s officially a candidate for the speaker gig.

Gohmert’s announcement comes as Boehner’s approval from conservative voters sags.

Gohmert’s office also sent a statement to TheBlaze on the announcement, in which Gohmert said that his bid — or other Republicans’ bids — for the speaker position don’t create a serious risk that Democrats could slip in a victorious candidate.

Read the full statement below:...

In TheBlaze’s Saturday poll on who should be the House Speaker, Gohmert snagged 16 percent of the vote, putting him firmly at No. 2 on the seven-person list.

TheBlaze readers’ favorite pick among the options provided: South Carolina Republican Trey Gowdy, whose nearly 10,000 votes gave him 70 percent of the poll participants.

The Texas delegation needs to back Gohmert.

“.......Texas has 25 Republican House members, the largest GOP delegation in Congress, a number that increased by one in the incoming Congress. Former CIA operative Will Hurd of San Antonio, the first African-American Republican from Texas, defeated Rep. Pete Gallego, D-Alpine, in the 23rd Congressional District.”

http://thehill.com/homenews/house/228416-gop-lawmaker-will-vote-against-boehner-for-speaker

“Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) announced on Saturday that he would not be voting for John Boehner (R-Ohio) to return as House speaker once the new Congress convenes.

“For years I watched Washington from afar and suspected that something was broken,” he said in a press release. ”During my first two years as a congressman I discovered a significant source of the dysfunction. I watched the House Leadership.”

Massie, brought into office through an election in 2012, is now among several conservative members who told The Hill last fall they would not be casting a vote for Boehner. However, after no one rose to challenge him, many ended up conceding by November that they would probably re-elect Boehner – most citing a lack of other options.

The Kentucky lawmaker, who had not committed either way before, outlined four reasons for his decision to pull support for the current House leadership, including scheduling “a fiscal crisis in a lame duck session on the last legislative day before Christmas to get maximum leverage over rank and file members.”

He also said that leadership “mislead members into thinking that a vote on an unpopular bill was postponed, only to then conduct a rushed voice vote on the $10 billion unfunded spending measure with fewer than a dozen members present.”

Massie took issue with the amount of time he said members were given to read and consider legislation, saying his colleagues were given “less than 72 hours to read bills over 1,000 pages long,” and chided at leadership’s approach to committee staffing – charging them with removing “members from committees simply because they voted for the principles upon which they campaigned.”

“With a process this broken, is it any wonder that Washington no longer works for the people? My constituents expect better and America deserves better,” Massie said.

“On January 6th, 2015, I will vote for a new Speaker who will consistently articulate a constitutional vision for America and facilitate an inclusive and orderly legislative process that allows Congress to truly reflect the will of the people,” he said in the release, although he did not specify for whom he would be voting.

In a statement to The Hill on Saturday, Boehner spokesman Michael Steel expressed confidence that the Ohio lawmaker will be reelected.

“Rep. Boehner was selected as the House Republican Conference’s choice for Speaker in November, and he expects to be elected by the whole House next week,” he said.”

With 25% of the GOP saying they won’t vote in 2016 if the GOPe foists another loser onto the ticket, ousting Boehner may be the Republican Party’s last chance to survive.

Dec 29, 2014 - Daily Caller: Conservative Lawmakers Plan To Vote Against Boehner For Speaker"...........These potential defectors are mostly keeping quiet about it in public, but in a posting on Twitter over the weekend, Kentucky Rep. Tom Massie of Kentucky hinted he would oppose Boehner. He posted a photo of a sign that reads: “Next Speaker Please.”

Such an attempt was tried two years ago, but ultimately failed: a group of conservatives tried to overthrow Boehner during the public vote, but only nine conservatives, frustrated with Boehner’s leadership, ended up voting against him. Organizers of that effort said more people had committed to vote against Boehner beforehand, but backed out before the vote.

And that’s part of the problem with the plan—each House member stands up and calls out the name of the person they are supporting. Members that might be inclined to vote against Boehner are afraid to do so out of fear that others will not follow through with their intentions, leaving them hanging and looking like a fool.

A conservative House aide described the current thinking among those voting against Boehner, similar to the one employed two years ago: To win the speaker’s race, Boehner needs the support of a majority of people present. If everyone in the House votes, that would be 218. The new Republican majority in the House will be 247.

If 20 Republicans vote for someone other than Boehner, under that scenario, the Ohio Republican will not have a majority and the body will have to vote again until someone reaches that threshold.

If this would happen, these conservatives hope Boehner would drop out of the speaker’s race and another Republican candidate would run for speaker.................

In a lengthy interview couple weeks back, Cong Louie Gohmert (Rep-TX) exposed how House Speaker John Boehner, Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, and Majority Whip Steve Scalise strengthened Obama’s executive amnesty with procedural trickery. A video shows Cong Gohmert on the House floor explaining why, as the bill's co-sponsor, he voted No.

Rep Gohmert is one of Congress' most astute patriots---his circumlocution is formidable. Rep Gohmert is the only lawmaker to issue a high alert as Obama announced his amnesty plans----"by law, people in the country illegally are not permitted to work, " Gohmert said.

==========================================

And there's Gohmert's eye-opening exchanges at 2014 House Judiciary hearing on immigration.....w/ Obama's hand-picked USCIS factotum---Leon Rodriguez.

Cong Gohmert set the trap for the oily Rodrigues. He nailed the mealy-mouthed Rodrigues to the wall.

CONG GOHMERT: WRT drug cartels paid $6,000-10,000 to "guide" the hordes over the border---"Would you, as a former prosecutor, call them criminals?," he nonchalantly asked Gonzales.

The smirking Rodrigues stepped headlong into the trap as Cong Gohmert casually hoisted him on his own petard.....making the point that if the hordes were coming here to escape drug cartels, why is it they consort w/ the criminals, and pay the violent breed to get over the border?

========================================================

Keep in mind, Obama told Americans that illegal criminals would be weeded out under his E/O.

At the same immigration hearing, Patriot Cong Randy Forbes stated Americans need to know if violent gang members are strolling across the border, and whether they are walking our streets. Forbes asked Obama appointee to USCIS (A DHS agency) Leon Rodrigues---whether the agency asked applicants about gang membership---and when they invariably reply no, how does the agency know whether it's true or not?

Forbes insisted on knowing "do you even ask them if they're gang members." The calculated Rodriguez would not reveal information to Republicans as he glibly responded to Democrats.

====================================================

NEED TO KNOW---ARE OBAMA/RODRIGUES/DHS SELLING US CITIZENSHIP TO (a) MEXICAN DRUG CARTELS-(b) ISIS TERRORISTS---(c) CONTAGIOUS ALIENS ?--

In an earlier statement, Sen Charles Grassley (REPUB--IOWA) said ICE identified key vulnerabilities in EB-5 visas

1) Export of sensitive technology/economic espionage.

2) Use by foreign government agents/espionage.

3) Use by terrorists.

4) Investment fraud by regional center.

5) Investment fraud by investors.

6) Fraud conspiracies by investors and regional center.

7) Illicit finance/money laundering.

==================================================

Rodriguez's confirmation hearings revealed he was a board member of Casa Maryland---a latino-centric advocacy group---pushing for unlimited immigration, and has connections to nationwide immigrant groups.

... his bid — or other Republicans’ bids — for the speaker position don’t create a serious risk that Democrats could slip in a victorious candidate.

Actually this would seem to be possible. I think many of us could use a short tutorial on the mechanics of the vote.

So if there are any experts here in FR-Land:

Is the vote timed?
Can you change your vote before it is finalized?
Things like that.

http://www.breitbart.com/big-government/2015/01/02/29-conservatives-can-oust-boehner-as-speaker/

“Conservatives have grown used to being a minority in Washington, irrespective of which party controls the White House and Congress. But on Tuesday, January 6, a group of just 29 conservatives will have perhaps its only opportunity to change the course of history and drive the direction of the country.

It would only require 29 House members to depose current Speaker John Boehner. With this leverage, conservatives could negotiate significant reforms from a successor who emerges on a second or third ballot, thereby restoring the mandate given to them by the electorate on November 4.

Tuesday will be a profound time for choosing, and given the way Obama has ostensibly overturned the results of the midterm elections, the Speaker’s election could prove more impactful than the votes cast at the ballot box.

We are not living through ordinary times; we are experiencing a constitutional crisis – one in which the sitting president has threatened to remake our immigration system and other fundamental laws, traditions, and values through executive fiat.

Yet, at the same time, the leader of the Republican-controlled House has admitted to giving the president the green light to implement executive amnesty. More broadly, he has demonstrated time and again that he will pass votes with Democrat support and whip votes together with Obama to avoid fighting the president on the fundamental issues of our time.

At this critical juncture, the few dozen conservatives in the House have two options.........”
