The Ducks and Buckeyes will meet for the trophy in Arlington, Texas.

On Monday, Jan. 12 at 8:30 p.m. ET, the No. 2 Oregon Ducks and No. 4 Ohio State Buckeyes will be in Cowboys Stadium to play in the first-ever College Football Playoff final. The Ducks clinched their spot by embarrassing defending champion Florida State in the Rose Bowl, 59-20, while OSU upset No. 1 Alabama, 42-35, in New Orleans.

This will be Oregon's second appearance in an officially ordained national championship game. The Ducks' first came in the 2010 season's BCS Championship, when they lost, 22-19, to Cam Newton's Auburn in Arizona.

Ohio State made three BCS Championships, winning 2002's against Miami and losing 2006's and 2007's to Florida and LSU, respectively.

According to odds released before the Playoff began, Oregon would be a 6.5-point favorite against Ohio State. We'll wait to see the actual spread after Vegas gets another look at things. You gotta think both teams just moved the needle a little bit.

The NCAA Division I A finally has a 2 game playoff, and the two Titans FSU and Alabama lost.

It’s just more evidence of why they need a full playoff system as they already have in Division I AA, Division II and Division III college football.

They can run the playoffs with the top 16 teams. The NCAA can use the bowls as the playoffs and final game.

They paid Nick Saban off so OSU could win.

Hope this year is a trend that the Big 10 is back. Penn State, Wisconsin, Michigan State and Ohio State all notched wins last week. Most of the games were nail biters.

Ducks baby. I almost wore out my Jase Robertson triple-threat duck call yesterday. Man it’s good to be a duck.

That’s 4 extra weeks of games. In the basketball tourney in a week and a half span, they’ve played 4 games.

College football only plays 10 games. Compare that to the NFL that has 16 games and 4 weeks of playoffs.

They are supposed to be going to school.

Also, the chance of injury against top flight competition increases, and huge rewards worked for a lifetime could be lost.

Just my opinion, but I’m satisfied with 4 teams. If they would simply take conference winners only into the tournament, they’d also increase the importance of conference play. Expand each conference to 16 teams, and you accommodate most of the Div I football schools.

As a hypothetical, it doesn’t really matter to me if Auburn is better than Oregon, if Florida has already beaten Auburn. By this format I’ve suggested, every game becomes important, every conference becomes important.

ESPN is probably pissed. They wanted an all SEC playoff, or at least an Alabama championship. Now they have to call it between the Pac 12 and the Big 10. Two conferences they have been deriding all season.

Heck, they might not even report on the game now.

I am a Big 12 and Big 10 fan.

The Big 10 wasn’t that deep this year. The Big 12 was very strong in the top four teams.

The lack of a Big 12 championship game hurt them.

Nice to see the Florida State Criminoles...oops, I mean Seminoles out.

Me too. Been a FSU fan since coach Bill Peterson's days but Jameis has turned me off. That thug should be in jail and I'll bet he eventually ends up there.

Which is why the big schools are dead set against an expanded playoff.

Lets say Ohio State had to fight through TCU, Baylor, and Boise to get to the game? What if you lose?

To much money. They fought the current four game playoff for decades.

Let me add one other thought.

A one-and-out tournament is a method for getting a winner and having a party.

A real championship is best exemplified by Major League Baseball and the National Basketball Association. Teams play each other for multiple games, and a good idea of how closely matched they are is really brought out.

The winner of a 5 or 7 game series is probably the better team. Even in a 4-3 split, it is an intangible at which they are better, even though extremely closely matched.

My point is that Ohio State could play Alabama next week and lose. Play them 7 games, and you’ll probably be able to pick the actually better team. Our former coach in Cincinnati, Brian Kelly, now with Notre Dame, used to quote someone who said that any FBS team can plan for, get lucky, and beat any other FBS team. Maybe just one in a hundred chance, but one game isn’t necessarily the best indicator.

How many points did OU score against Arizona at home in their loss?

OSU averages 45 ppg, scored 42 last night against the best defense in the world while OU was gifted with 35 points from 5 turnovers....

Football has never had a series to decide a winner at any level. The abuse to the body really limits playing to once a week.

But you have a great point about it is not always the best team winning, but who has the better game. 1987 Fiesta Bowl is a great example. Who thinks Penn State would have beaten the Miami Hurricanes in a multi-game series that year? But they did in one game.

Oh, brother.

OSU lost at HOME to an unranked team, by two TDs. They were DOMINATED by an unranked team on their own turf. That should have disqualified ANYONE from a playoff berth. Thankfully for OSU, brand-names schools get one, sometimes two, Mulligans under the corrupt FBS system.

If not for being a brand-name, big money school - and TCU NOT being either - they wouldn't have been playing last night at all. They got an Affirmative Action playoff bid and made the most of it. Good for them, but they never should have been there.

Just thank your lucky stars that reputation is all that matters to the committee - who ranked two teams above an FSU team who had won 29 in a row, were the defending national champions, were led by a Heisman-winning QB, and were the only undefeated team. If everything was exactly the same and TCU’s jerseys said “Oklahoma,” or OSU’s jerseys said “Northwestern,” they never would have gotten the opportunity.

What happened last night was that #5/#6 upset #3. It happens sometimes.

What games were you watching? ‘Bama the best defense? OU “gifted” with 5 turnover? Whatever your drinking must be some strong stuff.

Aren’t all schools “bought and paid for”? I do agree there is way too much money in college sports
