Indeed! Sallied Forth at 0630 - the trains did not run today because because so few ride on this day. I made it in to the Office in near record time - 35 minutes. And I did not exceed the speed limit, did not run any red lights, and behaved like a perfect gentlemen the entire way in, although some around me did not.

We are indeed celebrating this evening - Mrs. Mac Nessa is fading - I will see the page turn in the Eastern Time Zone - i.e. real time - before I retire.

John-Man has asked to have a dram of my Whisky at the dropping of the Ball and I have assented.

"Nemo me impune lacessit!"

Genuflectimus non ad principem sed ad Principem Pacis!

Listen, O isles, unto me; and hearken, ye people, from far; The LORD hath called me from the womb; from the bowels of my mother hath he made mention of my name. (Isaiah 49:1 KJV)

#8 – Bleachers: “I Wanna Get Better”

”Billboard”: Beneath the fist-pumping piano hook and a six-syllable vocal chant lies a sorrowful song about a deceased sister and feeling alienated as a hapless high schooler. Jack Antonoff infused a triumphant melody with pure emotion and offered an indie-pop single that affects and endures.

Publius: Warning! Offensive images and language. It reminds me a lot of Eighties punk but with some nasty stuff on the side. But I liked the power of the chorus.

Thanks, Connie, for the tributes to our troops. *HUGS*

Hope you get some time off this week.

I work Friday, but I'm going in late and wearing comfy sweat pants. Should be nice and quiet.
I'm expecting to be able to get caught up on some stuff after the last 2 weeks
of no time to do anything.

#6 – Tinashe & Schoolboy Q: “2 On”

”Billboard”: DJ Mustard ruled hip-hop in 2014, but out of all the great singles, Tinashe’s “2 On” was the most hypnotic, a masterly display of charisma from an R&B artist who was relatively unknown when the song dropped. With Mustard on the beat, Tinashe gave the producer the female protagonist he had been previously lacking.

Publius: Warning! Vile language, very dark. Dear Lord, what’s happened to our music?

#5 – Jason Aldean: “Burnin’ It Down”

”Billboard”: Is this one of the best R&B singles of the year, gifted by one of Country’s biggest stars? The song glides with sex appeal and programmed beats, and while Jason Aldean knows a thing or two about dirt road anthems, he left his comfort zone here and straight-up scored.

Publius: Hot Country mixed with R&B. Is this what happened to Country? I’m not sure what to think. Is the American Heartland going to hell in a handbasket too? At least I don’t have to post a warning.

Big fireworks display later downtown.

A quiet evening in? Party with friends tomorrow?

Maybe you should have NOT posted these tunes. They aren’t happy ones. Ugh!

Happy New Year. It’ll be better when you can get back to the oldies! :)

I have a few happy ones coming up. Maybe it's best to hear 2014's music in hindsight. I just hope that 2015's music is better.

It's strange to open a window into popular culture after being absent from it and finding stuff like this. But it should be on the historical record.

January 1980 comes up on Friday and Saturday nights.

Settled in is good. Dinner is done here. The Flyboy and Piper have gone to a party with other church families. Nana is snoozing in her recliner, and I’m watching the Orange Bowl. All is well in the high desert.

#4 – Clean Bandit & Jess Glynne: “Rather Be”

”Billboard”: An ode to feeling at home with your best friend when you’re nowhere near your actual residence, this gave Clean Bandit and Jess Glynne a US following, and gave us one of the most likable pop singles in years, a fizzy mix of strings, synth-pop and Seventies dance music. Even if Clean Bandit never dents the Top 10 again, the group produced one song that feels like it will last forever.

Publius: Catchy and a lot of fun. This is the best one I’ve run across yet. Great video. Something for the whole family.
