Transgender teen's suicide note: ‘My death needs to mean something’

The suicide of a transgender teen is catching national attention in part because of a suicide note she left behind online.

Leelah Alcorn, 17, of Kings Mills, Ohio, was struck and killed by a tractor-trailer on I-71 about 2:30 a.m. on Sunday, according to local media.

Posthumous posts started to appear on her Tumblr page, titled “Lazer Princess,” including her suicide note and a post apologizing to her closest friends.

“My death needs to mean something,” she wrote. “My death needs to be counted in the number of transgender people who commit suicide this year. I want someone to look at that number and say ‘that’s f---ed up’ and fix it. Fix society. Please.”

Alcorn's note explains that she has felt like a girl trapped in a boy’s body ever since she was 4. Then she cried tears of joy when she learned what transgender meant at 14.

“After 10 years of confusion I finally understood who I was,” the suicide note reads. “I immediately told my mom, and she reacted extremely negatively, telling me that it was a phase, that I would never truly be a girl, that God doesn’t make mistakes, that I am wrong.”

Otherwise go on a search engine and look for images of male and female hands.

Appears to be so. Never knew that before.

Also, here’s a question: Suppose the parents of a gender-confused child DO get him help. However, after moths, if not years of therapy, the child absolutely refuses to acknowledge their proper gender. What should be done then?

Simple, raise the child till adulthood and let them go. As Christians we are told not to exasperate your children, but to love them even though we may not agree with them.

I suspect, from the post however, it is desired that the courts become involved. This opens pandora's box I'm afraid and you can loose your children on anyone else's belief at that point. It just depends on what's popular at the moment (think Nazism or Communism or even Christianity if you think about it). So don't ask to open pandora's box. You might not like what you find in it.

The wackos of the public education system have convinced the youth of America that they are not who they think they are, and that they (the educators) know all the answers and it’s ‘if it feels good do it’, ‘if you think it, then you must be’....and for ‘Goodness sake try out everything.’

That is the cesspool of public philosophy. What else could we expect but total confusion, rebellion, and actual insanity. As we look at this variety of leftist educators, then it makes me wonder “what the he$$ did your parents or family members do to you?”

To blame his parents in the letter....really selfish. He could’ve waited til he was 18 then lived how he chose to instead he demanded his Christian parents accept and fund his lifestyle choice.

Nope...wasn’t thinking of the courts at all.

I know I’ve seen posts from FReepers that suggested a good old-fashioned physical beat-down, followed by permanent expulsion from the home unless the offender get their life right was the right solution.

I don’t know what I’d do.

I've never seen that on FreeRepublic and certainly not by believing Christians.

I don’t know what I’d do.

Most these days have no principals. Most are lost when life's challenges face them. I've often said Parenting is not for cowards (as one famous author put it).

Christian principals are best because they have a foundation upon Christ's explanation of the first commandment: Mark 12: 29-31 “The most important one,” answered Jesus, “is this: ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.”

For it is based on Love.

My husband has the index and ring finger almost exactly equal on both hands.

On my left hand my ring finger is obviously longer than my index finger but on my right my ring finger is only slightly longer than my index finger.

My shoulders are too wide and my hips too narrow, I’m pretty sure I’m deformed. :p

Transsexual, transvestitie, transgendered, transfat whatever. All these largely undefined words are meant to confuse the issue...

If transfat means a skinny man trapped in a fat man's body, that's what I am.

Same thing they would do if he started growing extra arms or another head, I suppose..

Sure. They all did if they went to school.
Lower shools and high schools all have principals.

Aside from the involving of an innocent person in your death (the truck driver who will be haunted for the rest of his life. It appears he will not be charged - some consolation) the media insists, in these cases to call the mixed up person, not as they ARE/WERE but as they wanted to be.

HE was still a HE when he offed himself - and should be referred to as ‘he’

I feel bad for the driver of the tractor-trailer. He’s going to have to live with this, even though it was not his fault.

It means your dead, if you want your life to mean something live it fully and do something positive with it. Sadly, you chose to quit. It’s over.

You are right, prayers offered. That was a cruel thing to do to another person, who will have to live with an awful memory.
