They could have destroyed a big chunk of GOP and Dem power 2 months ago. They chose to empower it.

Because politics runs on favors. That’s how John McCain became a presidential candidate when he was manifestly the worst possible one we could have put up. It’s how Bob Dole became a presidential candidate. Surely nobody actually thought that a man imitating a corpse could possibly win. It’s all about favors and payback. If you were in the House or the Senate and you talked about patriotism or what was good for the party or what the people needed they’d laugh themselves so hard they’d have to sit, wipe tears and suck wind.
