Who paid for the massive effort to rescue these numbnuts? Just wondering...

"...we got on with working up the data and getting a whole load of papers ready for submission, Turney said."Quick, can somebody give me a summary of the papers they are going to publish? Bonus points if you can condense their findings to ten words or less.

The last time we had a warning from Antarctica The Thing was unleashed. Best to nuke that place and be done with it.

As the story went global, the venture came in for plenty of criticism. Climate sceptics suggested the incident disproved global warming, even though the ships encasement was caused by the wind blowing ice around, making this a weather problem rather than a climate impact.Never mind the record ice in the Antarctic. They got stuck because it was windy.
LOL.

Wait. Weren't these the people from the Ship of Fools who were going to prove that global warming exists, and then got stuck in ice?

Dear Chris Turney,
If you think man can control the earth’s temperature,
please tell me where you think we should set the thermostat.

The birds are now commuting 40 miles to get food for their young. so does this mean there is that much more ice than before? also does it mean the birds aren't smart enough to nest closer to the food???
as to who paid for their little vacation? well, we did of course...

What the excerpt doesn't say is that the sea ice has expanded:
Such changes were bound to impact on life beneath the ice. Scientists inspected ecosystems on the sea floor. You see this remarkable transition with the expansion of sea ice. A lot of kelp and other life on the seabed is dead or dying. Were seeing instead much of the deeper flora and fauna, as they come up from the deeper seabed because theres an ecological niche to be filled, said Turney.
But they blame a change in the wind force for the problem and don't consider a reduction in global temperature as a factor.
As to who paid, half of those aboard paid A$18,000 to go on the expedition. Also the article says there were many complaints that valuable, time-sensitive research on other ships was interupted in order to rescue the ice-bound vessel.

Some fifties sci-fi movie poster could have used that line.

Contrast these two things:
"Turney is more enthusiastic than ever."
"Simple observations told unhappy stories."
Would a sincere naturalist be enthusiastic about unhappy findings? ... but another kind of person would be enthusiastic.
