De Blasio’s nightmare: New York’s mayor has lost the police — and maybe much more than that.
The Politico ^ | December 22, 2014 | Maggie Haberman and Glenn Thrush

Bill de Blasio, like his progressive political idol Barack Obama, is finding out that you can’t do the New Politics if you don’t pay attention to the old politics.

In Obama’s case, it was a failure to recognize the threat posed to him by Republicans who didn’t buy into his calls for a post-partisan partnership with Congress. For New York’s ambitious liberal mayor, it was an inability to keep long-simmering tensions with the city’s traditionally powerful police department from boiling over in the last few days.

Just over a year after sailing into office with 72 percent of the vote on a message of transformational change, de Blasio found his mayoralty subsumed by a torrent of anger, unleashed by the murder of two police officers in Brooklyn Saturday by a troubled gunman who said he was killing “pigs” to avenge the deaths of two men by cops in Staten Island and Ferguson, Missouri. By Monday, de Blasio was lashing out at the press corps that covers him, trying to paper over public divisions with his own police commissioner and coping with what friends described as the emotional blow of facing public rejection by many in the nation’s biggest police force. “He’s pretty badly shaken” by the murders, one told us....

Ferguson, Missouri, after a white cop shot an unarmed black man whom he later said had attacked him.

It wasn't "later." He said it right from the start.

And it wasn't just the officer saying it. He was backed up by the forensic evidence and witnesses. He was certainly attacked by the "unarmed" black man who was violent and going for the gun.

It ticked me off to read that.

A disgusting mixture of apologia and spin, this article attempts to place the problem everywhere but in the mayor's lap. It can't even report on the Brown affair honestly. It reports that - mirabile dictu! - the mayor is disapproved of 2:1 by white New Yorkers but breathlessly gushes that it doesn't matter, that the rest are behind him. Really?

What we have seen is simply that the mayor can cry on command like any two-bit actor and that he has no intention of abandoning his bashing of the police and his fawning toward Al Sharpton. And so nothing has really changed despite the cowardly murder of two police officers, except that any expression of disapproval toward His Honor is somehow mean-spirited and politically motivated. Were the authors capable of shame they'd feel it.

I am sorry, this cuts two ways, the police have isolated themselves from the people they are sworn to protect. They have a lot of fence mending to do.

Japanese poetry. Haiku is, today, a 17-syllable verse form consisting of three metrical units of 5, 7, and 5 syllables.

You just edumacated me. Had to look it up otherwise I would think it was some sushi.

I'm sure this guy couldn't give a fig about the two dead cops, he's just depressed at watching his political career go down the toilet (where it belongs). You reap what you sow, Herr de Blasio.

Oh my goodness...yeah, Obama, along with Pelosi and Reid, and their agenda, just oozed with 'nonpartisanship', didn't it?

Unbelievable.

“He’s pretty badly shaken” by the murders”

He’s just another leftist ideologue who’s idiocy has again blown up in his face with real world consequences.

Leftists have been getting people killed for eons.

Hopefully this unpleasantness costs this piece of garbage reelection.

Wilhelm, I forgot that was his real name. This has gotta be the weirdest, most radical SOB ever. Marries a dyke, has a son with a ‘fro. He almost makes Obama seem normal.

(born Warren Wilhelm, Jr.; May 8, 1961
“In a written statement, de Blasio spokesman Dan Levitan said, “Bill de Blasio took his mother’s family name because his father was largely absent from his life, a fact he has been open about throughout his time in public service. To suggest that there is anything wrong with changing one’s name for deeply personal reasons is absurd.” He declined to further comment”

(info from Wikipedia which in term cobbles info from various sources.”

The reason seems to be a divorce with a rejection of having anything to do with his father including keeping his father’s last name. De Blasio seems to be the family name of his mother’s.

I had that conversation with my FWPD brother in law a few weeks ago. He about blew a gasket but he is definitely part of the problem and has a string of internal affairs investigations to punctuate that.

De Blasio was supposed to be one of the leading lights of the Democrats who call themselves “Progressives.” Now their boy is in trouble - and they are getting very panicky and defensive.

“The protesters had absolutely nothing to do with the cop-killing,” “the cops’ union leaders are stirring up trouble,” “Republican partisans like Giuliani, Pataki, Peter King, Ray Kelly are stirring up trouble,” “the media is stirring up divisiveness,” yadda yadda yadda. That’s the spin for now.

When it turns out that the majority of folks aren’t listening to them, how soon before they start running away from De Blasio (the way they ran away from Obama on ObamaCare)?

By the way, what’s going on with those plans to bring the Democrat convention to Brooklyn?
