Hamilton County December 17, 2014 – Hamilton County Sheriff Jim Neil reports the Armored Personnel Carrier, commonly referred to by the media and the public at large as "The Tank" was transferred to the Jackson County (Ohio) Sheriff's Office on December 16, 2014.

We can barely pay the deputies but now they have a tank. I know most of them and are uncomfortable with the fact they are allowed to carry guns.
I am not in the least bit amused by this situation.
We in Fulton County can sell you guys “The Nuclear Missile” as we like to call it. It’s useless to prevent crime but it makes cops turgid.
This is another example of Sheriff Jim Neil reducing his inventory to save funds which
can be reallocated and used for more pressing needs during tough budget times. Since taking office in January of 2012, Sheriff Neil reduced the Marine Patrol fleet from five (5) boats down to two (2) boats. Sheriff Neil sold at auction the underwater Hydrospeeder commonly referred to as “The Submarine.” Now he transferred “The Tank,” and is exploring options to sell the semi-truck and trailer used to transport these large items.

So how is this being sold in Jackson County to the public that has to pay for it?
Heck, I’m thinking about starting a small mountain township here in Colorado which is actually our little prepper group. One of our members owns several acres in an unincorporated area of the county. Once we have the town, then get one or more of the members to be POST certified and bingo, we can appoint a town marshal.
Then go begging to the Feds to get all kinds of goodies.
I think its been done on the down-low because this is the first I've heard of it and I can find no one around town who knows anything about it including our Mayor. Of course the Sheriff's office is not located here, it's ten miles down the road in the county seat.
But I've yet to find a single person who thinks this idea is based on rational thought.

We spent Billions on MRAPs for our troops to patrol Iraq, and now that we’ve pulled out (mostly), those MRAPs are going to local police agencies.

So you have never been around a APC before. It’s got those big tracks on both sides and can deflect small arms rounds. You are right it do’s not have the big boomey thing in the front. When WE THE PEOPLE come up against it with .22s it’s a tank.
It isn’t a tank, at least it wasn’t when I was in the Army, if you guys are going to start calling APCs tanks, then what do we call tanks?
The catfish are well armed after so many guns have been lost in tragic boating accidents.
Seriously, there is not a law enforcement budget in Southern Ohio that is not at the point of breaking. The economy is that bleak and crime keeps increasing due to meth and other drugs running rampant.
But they got it FREE from the DOD.
Its funny when the state and locals realize how expensive it is to operate and maintain this junk.
All the spare parts are proprietary, expensive and hard to order. Local fleet mechanics and tecks can't work on them unless they have been specially trained on that equipment.
Since they were originally designed for the DOD they were built to constantly require repair and maintenance so the developer could make back the low bid initial acquisition price through spare parts.
Note to state and locals: Don't accept anything from DRMO if it has moving parts.
