Before the Jets-Patriots game on Sunday, Jets Nick Mangold was seen wearing an NYPD hat in honor of the two NYPD police officers who were tragically killed on Saturday.

Good one - thanks!
Former Buckeye. Class act.
Seeing a lot of Buckeye love on this thread - thanks for your reply!
Life-long Giants fan here, but I salute Nick Mangold. Sadly, I’m guessing no one in blue had the stones to wear an NYPD hat or shirt today. That would have been doubly appropriate, since they’re in St. Louis to play the Rams.
Didn’t see your comments before I posted...bravo, Coach Coughlin. Too bad none of his players have the stones to stand up for the NYPD.
I’ll give them a pass, it probably wasn’t easy to procure an NYPD hat in St.Louis. I saw a pic that indicated Tom Coughlin was going to wear a black stripe. I was a bit chagrined to note that Mangold was the only Jet to show support. Thanks for your reply.
I sure hope the Giants don’t get stupid and fire Coughlin. He’s one of the best there is.
Let’s see if the knicks and?? is there another b-ball team in NY? I HATE basketball and NEVER watch, but lets see if they honor the cops by wearing something before the game, they should have some kind of patch on their uniforms honoring them because doesn’t the NYPD protect their games?
Why all the sympathy? The cops were not “unarmed.” It’s only unarmed black men who deserve compassion.
Next to come will be Hillary patches on uniforms if the league allows political statements to infringe on sporting events.
Exactly!
But of course! There is also a time and place for all things. Mixing politics and sports is extremely unwise. Political statements from a sports field are about as welcome as telemarketing phone calls. Those folks should not have the right to interfere with one's tranquility at home or the very purpose of attending a sports event.
So, as long as your ox isn't being gored you are O.K. with political statements on the sports field?
And if you don't see the politics involved, you need a lot more education about real life.
So did you complain when athletes wore FDNY hats after 9/11?
“Mixing politics and sports is extremely unwise.”
While I agree with you on that completely, I have to point out that nothing happened to the Rams players for their BS. Why should we refrain if they won’t? They got their racist message out, we need to get ours out.
Not to reveal your identity, but I know someone affiliated with OSU that has your name. By any chance, do you frequently sit near (very near) the north endzone during home football games?
A few weeks back, I was on the “fire Coughlin” bandwagon, but I’m willing to give him another year. The team never quit on him and they’ve played really well in recent weeks, albeit against lesser competition. You can see teams that are simply phoning it in and waiting for their coach to get fired; the Giants don’t fall in that category.
The biggest problem facing the G-men has been the lack of talent. They stayed with some of the guys from the Super Bowl teams for too long, so the offensive line got old, and a lot of Jerry Reese’s draft picks (Hakeem Nicks, Reuben Randle and David Wilson, to name a few) never panned out.
I may be going out on a limb, but I think the Giants are turning the corner. Watched Odell Beckham, Jr. play at SEC; outstanding WR at the collegiate level, but I never thought he would have this kind of impact in the pros. Get Cruz back and a lot of NFL secondaries are going to have severe match-up problems. If Jennings can stay healthy, we have a ground game, and the DL is looking more like the Giants of old. Still a ways to go; need more help on the OL and at LB, but a lot of the pieces are falling into place.
And Tom Coughlin is the right guy to lead them.
Exactly. More than once that Giants have been down, then got right back up with Coughlin.
Lot of folks with this name, especially from Ohio, but I live out west, and never attended a Buckeye game. Thanks!
Understood - worth a shot. Thanks
