“The cigarette law is a separate issue.”

you and I will have to disagree on this one. Limited G’ment is where I stand.

I see no difference between this TAX enforcement issue in N.Y. City and the 18th Amendment - Prohibition, or the Marijuana laws. I tend to be libertarian on these issues.

You can do all the drugs you desire. I should not be forced to pay taxes to cover your medical bills, or the cost of extra police who enforce these laws.

The social pathologies that arise should be handled in two ways. Let the churches deal with the weak, and social pressure should enforce Right from Wrong - 19th century England and the stiff upper lip.

Today you have P.C. and the late 1960’s and early 1970’s, the difference is that instead of Kent State you have ISIS killing people and the Media do not object. You have pseudo racist B.S. pushed on T.V. with joy.

Kennedy was not a strong leader. He was bullied by Khrushchev during their meeting in Vienna in May, 1961. Because of his apparent weakness in this meeting, Khrushchev started erecting the Berlin Wall two months later as he knew Kennedy would do nothing to stop him. Kennedy also agreed on a "neutral" Laos, which ultimately led to a Communist government in Laos and a major expansion of the Ho Chi Minh Trail to undermine South Vietnam.

JFK approved of the Bay of Pigs operation to take down Castro.

Quite true, but it is also Kennedy who changed the concept of operations reportedly changing the landing area to the more remote Bay of Pigs (where the Cuban Exile force was able to be easily contained and defeated) and then when the plan to destroy the Cuban Air Force failed he withdrew proposed US military air support to do the job. This doomed the operation to failure. Subsequently, he was humiliated by Castro in ransom demands for the Cuban Exile prisoners including his ill-fated support for Eleanor Roosevelt's "Tractors For Freedom Committee" which was a soft-headed Leftist program if there ever was one.

He also ordered the subsequent blockade of Cuba in response to the positioning of Soviet missiles in Cuba. We probably came as close to a nuclear war with the Soviets at any time in the history of the Cold War.

True, that. However, Khrushchev's reading of Kennedy as a soft touch probably led to the emplacement of the Soviet nuclear missiles in the first place.

In May 1961 JFK sent 400 military advisors (Green Berets) to South Vietnam to combat the growing communist influence... a total of 16,000...

Kennedy elected to go on the defensive and fight a guerilla war in South Vietnam rather than attack the real problem, which was the Communist regime in the North which was organizing, training, and equipping the increasingly massive and successful Viet Cong insurgency in the South. Kennedy was also involved in the ongoing unrest in South Vietnam and the successful coup against President Ngo Dinh Diem, but most of the details of that did not emerge until after both of their assassinations.

Barry Goldwater, of course, recognized the problem and wanted to stop the problem at it's source - something Kennedy, Johnson and even Nixon never did - by stopping or toppling the murderous Communist regime in the North who were killing millions including our own troops and thwarting it's Soviet and Communist Chinese enablers.

I was initially impressed by Kennedy and his words and soaring oratory. I (and others) became increasingly disillusioned by his actions.

Always one of my most puzzling questions is why on earth someone would come onto a thread and waste their precious time mocking the thread’s theme.

Always one of my most puzzling questions is why on earth someone would come onto a thread take personal offense at a post about the subject?

What’s your point Raybbr?

My point was to point out that the "guests" on these shows are, almost universally, liars and equivocators. I thought I made that clear.

Kennedy also agreed on a "neutral" Laos, which ultimately led to a Communist government in Laos and a major expansion of the Ho Chi Minh Trail to undermine South Vietnam.

I lived four years in Berlin. The Berlin Wall was planned long before JFK became President in January 1961. East Germany was hemorrhaging people including those with real skills. And what would any American President have done faced with the construction of the Wall? The answer is nothing any more than we did when the Hungarian Revolution was put down or when the Berlin blockade was put in place precipitating the Berlin Airlift. Look at a map and see where Berlin is located. It was deep inside East Germany.

Quite true, but it is also Kennedy who changed the concept of operations reportedly changing the landing area to the more remote Bay of Pigs

To suggest that JFK was micromanaging the invasion is nonsense. The CIA and Cuban exiles called the tune. Eisenhower refused to approve the operation. JFK made a terrible mistake, but not for the lack of being aggressive.

True, that. However, Khrushchev's reading of Kennedy as a soft touch probably led to the emplacement of the Soviet nuclear missiles in the first place.

Correct that to misreading. Some would say JFK was reckless placing the US in the position of causing a nuclear exchange. We came very close to WWIII--probably the closest we have ever been to nuclear war. In the old days of the USSR, they always tested new US Presidents to gauge their strength. They seriously underestimated JFK.

Kennedy elected to go on the defensive and fight a guerilla war in South Vietnam rather than attack the real problem, which was the Communist regime in the North which was organizing, training, and equipping the increasingly massive and successful Viet Cong insurgency in the South.

There was no political will in the US to launch an attack on North Vietnam nor was there any international support for such a move. We had just recovered from WWII and Korea. There was no stomach for another land war in Asia.

I served in Vietnam 1967 to 1968 including during the Tet Offensive. It was LBJ who got us involved in Vietnam in a big way after the Gulf of Tonkin incident.

I was initially impressed by Kennedy and his words and soaring oratory. I (and others) became increasingly disillusioned by his actions.

I share that sentiment. What I don't agree with is that he was soft on communism or lacked the will to employ American power. In some respects, he was too eager to take aggressive actions--almost reckless.

The world was a far different place in 1961. We still had over half a million troops in Europe to counter a possible invasion of Europe by the USSR and the Warsaw Pact. Chairman Mao was showing aggressive intentions including working on plans to get nuclear weapons. And most of the world was sill recovering from the death and destruction of WWII.

Well, you and I may differ a bit on the interpretation of some particulars of that era (we both lived through it and did not get our experiences out of some Leftist history book or Liberal think tank), but there is no question we would both prefer Kennedy to any of the current crop of Democrats - and many of the Republicans.

The world today is a far different place and our present leadership and their vision is terrible, with a few individual exceptions.

*Go Cruz!!*

It’s all about contract BS. Dish went through this with CNN last month, or so. Not sure when because we don’t watch CNN that often.

Anyway, the situation really is Fox wants more money from Dish and Dish doesn’t want to pay it or raise their rates to pay for it.

Rogers is leaving because he and his wife will be implicated, that’s why he distorted the Benghazi Report, is doing this Media farewell cover up tour and getting the hell off of the National Stage!

If you hear his b/s radio show on one of your syndicates…turn it off. Call the station and tell ‘em the show sucks and then just leave it be.
