Without North Korea, Hollywood Is Running Out of Politically Correct Villains

by Ben Shapiro 18 Dec 2014

With Sony’s decision to pull the Seth Rogen/James Franco starrer The Interview from circulation following a brutal hack attack by the North Korean regime, Hollywood finds its list of acceptable villains growing shorter and shorter. Not only did Sony pull The Interview thanks to intimidation at the hands of Kim Jung Un – the film was about reporters trying to kill the evil dictator – they also pulled a slated Steve Carrell movie, Pyongyang, about the regime.

I noticed several years ago that the Ruskies had returned as top villains in movies and TV programs.

Earnest, the WH presser, said that the Admin is calling for caution as the investigation of the Sony hacking is going on, so we don’t get a rush to judgment.

[Hmmmm. They should have displayed that much ‘caution’ while the Ferguson incident was boiling. Instead, they were s*it-stirring, inciting, and supporting those who rushed to judgment and those who ignored the judgment issued by the Grand Jury. Duplicity at its worst with this Administration.]

I'm not shedding any tears for Sony. The entertainment industry in the US is out of control with its trash that undermines every principle of decency and civilization. If Sony wanted to do a satire about North Korea, it should've been with fictional names for the country and leader. Really good satire does that; it makes it more relevant in the long term.

And the classless snarking in execs emails? It would be very nice if Sony put grownups in charge.

It's been said many times. This could've been worse. The hackers could've done something serious and dangerous to the power grid, monetary system or whatever.

Perhaps Sony execs should take responsibility for their lousy computer security and their tasteless disregard of others. Grownups do that....they take responsibility.

“White male capitalist corporate “christian” villians have always been popular.”

BINGO!

Michael Savage yesterday on his radio program said the good old Hollywood standby of portraying White, male, Christian, Conservatives as the film villans in their Hollywierd film trash always works for the masses.

“So Chinese villains were off the table. So, too, are Muslim terrorists, given the multicultural backlash to accurate portrayal of Muslim terrorism. When 24 had the temerity to suggest that Muslim terrorists might provide a greater terror risk to the United States than, say, white Europeans, the Council on American-Islamic Relations made such a stink that star Kiefer Sutherland had to disown the Muslim terrorist storyline in a public service announcement for the show:”

Hercules Actor: ‘Being a Christian in Hollywood, You Get Attacked’

(CNSNews.com) – Kevin Sorbo, star of the 1990s TV series Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, as well as the 2011 movie Soul Surfer and this year’s highly successful God’s Not Dead, said there is a huge audience for Christian-themed movies and Hollywood would profit if it understood that audience, but he added that if you are a Christian and a conservative in Hollywood, “you will get attacked.”

Sorbo, who sometimes comments on current events, also said he believes there is a hostility towards Christians by some media and they spend an inordinate amount of coverage on topics such as “global warming” instead of focusing on more immediate issues such as the persecution and beheading of Christians by radical Muslims.

In an interview with CNSNews.com about the new movie Let the Lion Roar, in which he plays the 16th century Protestant John Calvin, Sorbo talked about the appeal of Christian movies in the marketplace and how the media are hostile toward people of faith.

Conservatives outraged over insulting premise of new action-thriller ‘Non-Stop’
March 3, 2014 by Cheryl Carpenter Klimek

This is how Breitbart describes the film’s surprise ending:

The terrorist is a 9/11 family member. Yes, you read that right; the terrorist is a 9/11 family member who lost a loved-one in the World Trade Center on that terrible September morning.

After 9/11, this 9/11 family member-turned-terrorist then joined the military but found himself disillusioned by the pointless wars.

The 9/11 family member-turned-terrorist is upset because America hasn’t done enough to ensure there will never be another 9/11. And so he figures that if he can get an air marshal blamed for a terrorist attack, America will wake up and anally probe us before we’re allowed on a plane, or something.

The villain’s sidekick is a member of the American military willing to murder 150 innocent people for a payday.

The one passenger on the plane who is forever helpful, kind, reasonable, noble, and never under suspicion is a Muslim doctor dressed in traditional Muslim garb including a full beard.

Movie reviews fail to mention any such details.

Politically correct villains are not new. In the early 1960's, a number of movies came out about World War II--Sink the Bismarck, The Guns of Navarone, The Longest Day, etc. meanwhile, except for an occasional spy thriller, very few films dealt with Cold War issues. Some conservatives at the time complained that Hollywood was re-fighting the dead-and-gone Third Reich while ignoring the Soviet threat.

I guess slaughtering 140 children is not enough for the "politically correct" crowd to label the Taliban as "villans".

"Come here you whacky Talibans and give aunt Hillary an empathetic hug!"

Ya, I remember there were Libyan terrorists in the Back to the Future movies. In retrospect they would never make that movie today with those villians.

Hollywood can still mock and humiliate Christians so I don’t think they are worried about losing N.Korea.
