I thought it was interesting that one Aussie commentator said that maybe the strict ban on law abiding citizens owning guns in Australia should be reexamined. Obviously this terrorist had no problem getting his gun
One of our Senators (Senator David Leyonhjelm) has raised the issue. Our Senate is a bit weird in the way it’s elected - small parties can people into the Senate, and he actually got in last year partly by accident (his Liberal Democrat Party were first on the ticket in his state, and got a lot of votes from people who thought they were voting Liberal). Because the Senate is finely balanced, even though he’s only one of seventy six Senators, the government actually needs to pay attention to him (with neither of the main sides holding a majority, the minor party Senators have a lot of potential influence). He might actually get somewhere. To a great extent, his views are fairly libertarian and his support for gun rights is part of that.
Has it ever happened that government reversed a law formerly passed?
