Church bells rang out Wednesday afternoon in Havana, marking a major moment in history -- Cuba and the United States are renewing diplomatic relations after decades of ice-cold tension.
Word of the massive change was met with passionate opinions and some protests in the United States. And tearful celebrations erupted in the streets of the island after President Raul Castro announced the news in a televised address. SNIP
In Miami, where the vast majority of the large population of Cuban exiles once fiercely opposed any change in the U.S. stance toward the island, reactions were split, largely along generational lines.
A rift over the embargo that political analysts have noted within the Cuban-American community was on full display.
Angry debates erupted in the city's Little Havana neighborhood between groups of younger demonstrators who said they supported Obama's decision to exchange the prisoners and thaw diplomatic relations and older protesters who said they were opposed to the move.

Meanwhile, the NYTimes headline is "Little Havana excited...."
Part of any deal Obama will make sure people in Little Havana will be banned from going to Cuba
Has obama given our nukes to North Korea a a peace offering yet? Or did he already ship them to Iran?
Seriously what a tool.
And the pope sucks too. And I’m catholic
If the people in Cuba who oppose Castro have any balls, now is the time to rise up, because now the government is in a bind, would they violently put down the demonstrations knowing it would jeopardize the opening of ties.
This Pope is a socialist Ass! I am sick of all of these Globalist Idiots! zero is a @arxist @linsyite through and through> the rest are just greedy pigs at the trough.
I had a coworker (he has since retired)
who felt that he was abandoned in the bay of pigs by jfk
and his only desire was that he would outlive fidel
Cuban Americans, start a revolution. Something needs to happen quick.
Fidel is 88, Raul is 83. Their regime is dying either way.
Exactly, this should be the sign to the Cuban people that the government is giving up and it is ripe to be overthrown.
Imagine how embarrassing it would be after all this if there are reports of the Cuban government violently opposing demonstrations.
That is the one potential good thing from this, but I am afraid Obama is going to squander it.
Florida just went Red; and no, not the commie red.

He was correct, was he not?
POPE FRANCIS NEGOTIATED OBAMAS UNCONDITIONAL SURRENDER TO THE CUBAN TYRANNICAL COMMUNIST REGIME.
Obama and Raúl Castro thank pope for breakthrough in US-Cuba relations.
Pope Francis, before visiting The Holy Land boasted to be himself the Che of the Palestinian people.
A Marxist leaning Pope blessed the Marxist American president embrace of Castro's genocide communist regime condemning the Cuban enslaved people to eternal damnation. On the deal Castro liberated an American illegally imprisoned in Cuba in exchange for the freedom of three Cuban spies serving prison terms in U.S. and the normalization of relations with a country that occupied for decades a top position in the list of the State Department s terrorist countries.
The Cuban regime tried to obliterate New York and Washington with a nuclear attack during the October Missile Crisis of 1962. In November 1962, the Castro brothers and Che Guevaras agents had targeted Macys, Gimbels, Bloomingdales, and Manhattans Grand Central Station with a dozen incendiary devices and 500 kilos of TNT. The Holocaust was set for detonation the following week, on the day after Thanksgiving. (Humberto Fontova)
Castro has been a strong ally of Islamic terrorism. Cuba continues to serve as a base for coordination and mutual support among transnational terrorist organizations. At Tehran University he stated to the thunderous applause of students and faculty, "The imperialist king will finally fall, (AFP, May 10, 2001). Immediately afterward the Iranian Press Service proudly proclaimed that "Iran and Cuba reached the conclusion that together they can tear down the United States. (IPS, May 10, 2001).
According to World renown and highly respected American investigative journalist and author, Claire Sterling, : All of the worlds emerging terrorist bands in the 1970s were indebted to the Cubans and their Russian patrons for that honeycomb of camps around Havana. None could have started without rudimentary training, and those who didnt train in Cuba were trained by others who did. (The Terror Network, The Secret War on International Terrorism.)
As reported by Sterling, Castro was training the advance guards of the coming European fright decade Palestinians, Italians, Germans, French, Spanish Basques and forming guerrilla nuclei in practically every Western hemisphere state south of the American border. As far back as 1962, Castros camps were taking in 1,500 Latin American guerrillas a year. . Any revolutionary movement anywhere in the world can count on Cubas unconditional support, declared Castro at the 1966 Tricontinental Conference in Havana. It was then and there that the international terrorism network was consolidated under Castros leadership.
Fidel Castro jailed political prisoners at a higher rate than Stalin during the Great Terror. He murdered more Cubans in his first three years in power than Hitler murdered Germans during his first six. He came closer than anyone in history to starting a world-wide nuclear war. It is suicidal turning a blind eye to Castro, a deadly enemy at 90 miles south of Key West that does not hide his hatred for U.S.
After the restoration of diplomatic relations comes the end of the embargo.
To complete Obamas betrayal of the American people, with the normalization of relations comes the opening to Cuba of the American and International bank credits that will sustain the Cuban regimen passing to the American taxpayers the same heavy burden that helped to bankrupt the Soviet Union.
Well, he sure as hell thought he was abandoned on the beach.
He felt lucky to have come out of it alive.
He would turn his head to the side and spit whenever he said “Kennedy”.
one cannot help but wonder if Beyoncé. & JZ were charged with diplomatic responsibility during their much publicized recent vacay to Havana?
Obama and cigar smokers ... well, there it is.
Just Commissar Obama helping out his commie buddies.
I don’t think Obama would have done this if he didn’t think the majority of Floridians were going to be fine w this by 2016. Seems like there was a reason he did this Now. I’m thinking ol Jeb announcing and w congress out of town ... this gives the MSM something to blather about until Chistmas .. then by the new year ... old news. Nothing to see here.
Had to be some reason Obama announced today after a year of meetings.
I just don’t believe there are enough older Cubans who will carry the day and turn Florida red over THIS event. Other Latino’s will think this is a good thing. Just do not think non Cubans will care about this by 2016. Too many people with too short of memory span.
My evidence? The freaking MSM are talking up yet another Bush for POTUS. FTLOG another BUSH!!
Ha....and Obama leading from behind with a "Cuban Spring"
The embargo has failed. I don’t see why there shouldn’t be normalization. We trade with China and Vietnam.
The new rebellion will start in time. Americans will bring with the money and IDEAS—like Freedom and Independencia.
