NYC Film Premiere Canceled After Threat

The threat of a 9/11-style attack has caused Sony to cancel the New York premiere of its new film, “The Interview.”

"Soon all the world will see what an awful movie Sony Pictures Entertainment has made. The world will be full of fear. Remember the 11th of September 2001. We recommend you to keep yourself distant from the places at that time," a note from hackers warned.

The premiere was supposed to be held tomorrow night at the Sunshine Cinema in Manhattan. Sony is telling other theaters they don’t have to show the movie when it opens.

“It’s actually not crystal clear whether it is a cyber response that they are threatening, or whether it’s a physical attack,” NYPD Deputy Commissioner John Miller said. “That’s why we’re continuing to evaluate the language, but also the source.”

Sony's files and personal emails were hacked by the group known as Guardians of Peace.

"The Interview" stars Seth Rogen and James Franco and it’s scheduled to open on Christmas Day. Rogen and Franco have canceled their promotional tour in support of the movie.

These cancellations are happening all over the country. No one wants to go to a place that has been threatened like this. Good think we can eventually see the movie on the internet.

I think Sony made a rational choice.

I saw that movie, The Interview, it was a pretty good Hitchcock style Aussie thriller starring Hugo Weaving and--wait, that's not the movie the Koreans are protesting?!

It's what, you say?

Some lame comedy movie that would bomb at the box office without all this publicity?

....nevermind

Ha, ha.
I am like you - not sure if I want to read up on all this or not.
I have (so far) disregarded it

“All this nonsense aside, am I the only person who saw the commercials for this film and thought “I’ll pass - doesn’t seem remotely humorous.”?”

Well, it has Seth Rogen as one of the two lead characters, which is about all that I need to know. Maybe when I was 25 years younger I would have found this funny.

I’m still confused. What is this film about? Why are so many people against it?

Funny how Franco took his paycheck and now is campaigning against his employer's product. Funny, that seems to only happen in one industry.

What was the threat? From whom and why?

The threat was by North Koreans. It’s a movie mocking NK and Kim Jong-un.

I’m in favor of anyone who gets rid of a Seth Rogen film.
