ALBANY — The Cuomo administration announced Wednesday that it would ban hydraulic fracturing in New York State, ending years of uncertainty by concluding that the controversial method of extracting gas from deep underground could contaminate the state’s air and water and pose inestimable public-health risks...

That conclusion was delivered publicly during a year-end cabinet meeting called by Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo in Albany. It came amid increased calls by environmentalists to ban fracking, which uses water and chemicals to release natural gas trapped in deeply buried shale deposits.

When I was a child, New York actually banned home garbage disposals for the same reason. Nanny state über alleys.

I’m not excusing Cuomo’s decision; I thought I’d explain it. I think he’s a POS (for this and other reasons), and I wish something could restore upstate NY to the glory it once enjoyed.

In-laws from Spain have described the Adirondacks as nicer than anything they’d seen over there; I used to vacation there as a kid.

FWIW, I hope they don’t think casinos are an answer, either; they are a short-term fix that causes long-term problems.

Good choice not moving there. I left WNY in 1985. Only go back to visit mom. It is depressing. She still lives there within 30 miles of where she was born. I left Orchard Park(suburb of Buffalo where Bills play)after graduating from SUNY Syracuse.

Buffalo was already hurting then because of the closure of Bethlehem Steel mills in Lackawanna. The other big manufactures were on the downhill slide. I think the Ford and GM plants have since closed. All of my siblings and almost all of the other kids in my neighborhood moved out. The only one that stayed owns his own landscaping business.

Back in the 1970s people said that everything from Westchester County south including Long Island should be a different state. WNY is more like the Midwest. The Adirondacks is the biggest state park in the country. Upstate NY has about as much in common with the NYC area as Chicago does with southern IL. I am sure they feel the same way about Chicago.

Even 40 years ago there was evidence of shale gas all over south of Buffalo. I knew 2 people who had gas wells on their property. They had free gas for life.
There was a waterfall near my mom’s house called Gaslight Falls. About half way up the falls there was a spot you could actually light the methane coming out of the rock.

“...Notice how all Democrats are top scientists when it comes to stopping energy production?...”

Remember that, especially in NY! it is not MERELY “DEMOCRATS” in Poweer doing this, Or Democrat Voters.

The Dems & Libs have one of the sharpest weapons to use that they have years so far to learn efficiently well: 15-21 years old high school & college Zoombies.

And, according to another article posted in F.R. recently-A Governor is pushing for MORE Gov’t control over “Educating”!

More Tax Payers Monies spent & given to Liberal Teachers and Unions to Brain Wash children, black-ball Children if they don not go along, and FREE Mass-Produced signs and Bus rides to their Rallies!

In America, the typical millenial has a much deeper knowledge of “climate change” than of the US Constitution.

Because he is Prince Andrew The Smarmy. The other big story is the whole Casino double-cross. Jeff Gural who owns Tioga and Vernon Downs (and is the CEO of Newmark and Co. In NYC, was asked by His Highness Prince Andrew to help underwrite the advertising campaign for the casino amendment..Jeff spent $800gs of his own money to get it passed, and spent another million for the casino application fee for Tioga Downs to become a full fledged casino, well yesterday after the Fracking debacle, the Casino sitting committee picks a project off the NYS Thruway near Rochester promoted by Thomas Wilmot (Huge Cuomo Lacky) and left Jeff in the dark. Along with that was a family who owns the old “IBM Homestead” in Johnson City NY..both Jeff and The Walsh’s paid a million bucks to apply for the license and when the “siting commission” announced that Wilmot got the bid....Jeff and the Wals’s were out in the cold. As it turns out, the siting commission is just an extension of Prince Andrew’s court, so Jeff, who helped get the law passed, was never going to get get it..Wilmot for ten years has been plotting this, and Prince Andrew and his Court Jesters used Jeff Gural and his money to get this for Wilmot. Double crossed and lies. welcome to the New Gnu Yak. It is sickening.

I drove from Connecticut to Cooperstown, in October. My pal and I were astonished at all the anti-Cuomo signs we saw (Re: SAFE Act). Our enthusiasm was tempered, when we realized that one square mile in Manhattan would out vote these folks :(

And that is why only landowners should be able to vote.
