WASHINGTON (AP) -- Russia's suddenly escalating financial crisis risks spilling beyond its borders and endangering parts of the global economy.
With economies in Europe, Japan, China and Latin America already ailing, fresh threats have emerged from Russia's shriveled currency, its move to dramatically boost interest rates, the damage from plummeting oil prices and Western sanctions over Russia's action in Ukraine.
The alarming 10 percent drop in the ruble over the past two days has amplified the economic turmoil in Russia. Investors fear that Russia may default on its foreign debt obligations - a move that would inflict hundreds of billions in losses on lenders abroad.

Much of the pre-election talk was about the use of congressional power over the purse to rein in Obama's socialist sgenda and his dictatorial rule.
So the first thing republicans do in the lame duck session is pass a full one year budget to finance Obama's Liberal Kingdom.
In doing so they just gave up one half of their two year window to use the budget to wield some authority via the budget.
They could have passed a short term continuing resolution and waited until January when Harry Reid is knocked out of power to do a full budget.
So what why the rush to do a full budget now?
It was due in September - they waited this long so why not use a CR to move the process to January?
What is motivating Boehner to do the democrats dirty work?
If Congress and the President simply opened up all those areas that they have closed to oil exploration over the years, and stopped the environMENTALists from blocking them, then we could get more oil at these lower prices. Fracking might dry up, but the more conventional, cheaper methods of extraction would come roaring back, thus avoiding the whole nose, face thing.

The administration warned a federal judge Monday to stay out of the debate over President Obama’s deportation amnesty, saying decisions about whom to deport fall squarely within the executive’s job description, “which this court lacks authority to review. In its first extended legal filing in one of the court challenges to the new amnesty, the Justice Department says courts have long held that an agency’s decision whether or not to prosecute someone or to enforce the law is entitled to “absolute discretion.”“Federal courts sit to decide cases and controversies, not to resolve disagreements about policy or politics,” said Joyce R. Branda, the acting assistant attorney general who took the lead on filing the brief.

Putin is not sitting there waiting for ruin - he will do something to harm the US (actually can you say “Obama” whom he despises and I don't blame him). Like Palin sort of said, “I can see Russia from my house.” Well, I can see WWIII in the not distant future.
