Ted Cruz reignites GOP civil war

Republican senators pounded Ted Cruz over the weekend, lashing him for his procedural tactics and ultimately voting in large numbers against his immigration gambit.

Now, Cruz’s allies off Capitol Hill are looking for revenge.

Conservative outside groups view Saturday’s vote as the first salvo in the GOP v. GOP purity wars that they hope to reignite in the beginning of the new Congress and in the run-up to the 2016 Senate races, when 24 Republican senators will be on the primary ballots.

After being pummeled by the party establishment in the 2014 midterms, activist groups are looking at the fight over Cruz’s contention that the spending bill is unconstitutional as their first opportunity to regroup and reestablish their relevance as Senate Republicans prepare to take the majority next year.

“People’s votes may by themselves inspire folks to say: ‘I’m running against this guy or this girl,’” said Ken Cuccinelli, the president of the Senate Conservatives Fund. “I have a funny feeling that some people who weren’t thinking of running two weeks ago are thinking of running now.”

Seven of the 20 Republicans who voted against Cruz are up for reelection in two years, including Sens. Dan Coats of Indiana, Mark Kirk of Illinois, Ron Johnson of Wisconsin and Lisa Murkowksi of Alaska. And 16 Republicans who are running again, such as Richard Burr of North Carolina and Rob Portman of Ohio, joined the Texas freshman, a sign that many are well aware of ammunition that could be used against them in a GOP primary.

Ted Cruz reignites GOP civil war

Good, the moderates need to get out or at least take a back seat. Or there needs to be a new party.

To win an election overwhelmingly and then as first act cave into amnesty and obamacare is completely unacceptable.

Politico - reversing the logical conclusion, as usual.

It's the GOPe that has reignited the civil war.

Toomey needs to go! He got elected as part of the 2010 TEA Party surge and then happily joined the Establishment in DC. Screw him!

Cruz didn’t re-ignite any civil war, the establishment did by ignoring the will of the people once again.

“I don’t have a primary,” said Kirk, a moderate Republican. “And from the poll data I’ve looked at, a primary opponent would be extraordinarily foolish to come against me.”

Awright then...health to the Rats in Illinois!

What are GOP purists? Are they Republican leftists, or conservatives? Republican leftists are the ones doing what the Republican Party has been doing for decades, so strictly speaking, they are the pure Republicans. Conservatives are rocking the vote, so to speak. We hate the GOPe as much as the GOPe hates us, so calling us GOP purists seems, ...well ...stupid.

Exactly! The news in NYC is not good. Two cops in the hospital—legal officers who were there to protect the 1st Amendment rights of the protesters. People are singing that rap song about killing cops. The whole thing is escalating slowly to keep people on the side of the cop-haters. But it will eventually explode, according to plan.

The Repugnant Orthodoxy is like the pox infested culture in history that stuck little hearts and diamonds over pox marks, pretending all is well.

Cruz merely uncovers putrid wounds we already knew were there.

"Re-ignite" ? That fire never burned down. The America-haters keep fanning the flames.

There was no reigniting the civil war, the GOPE has been at war with conservatives since 1988, they are just more open and brazen in the last 10 yrs. with their actions. Cruz has decided they must be shown for their true colors and makes them vote and declare themselves for the world to see in actual votes that count, not the show votes these gang of trash uses to hide behind in their reelection campaigns.

Before Cruz, they held their show votes and worked with their fellow travelers across the aisle in private to get us all toward that great utopian socialist state of nirvana. Cruz just made them own up to what they really are and no liberal likes that!
