Senate approves Obama pick for surgeon general
Yahoo News ^ | 12-15-2014 | MATTHEW DALY and LAURAN NEERGAARD

Murthy, 37, a physician at Boston's Brigham and Women's Hospital and instructor at Harvard Medical School, won confirmation on a 51-43 vote. He's a co-founder of Doctors for America, a group that has pushed for affordable health care and supports Obama's health care law.

Sen. John Barrasso, R-Wyo., said most of Murthy's career has been spent as an activist focused on gun control and other political issues, rather than on treating patients. "Americans don't want a surgeon general who might use this position of trust to promote his own personal campaign against the Second Amendment of the Constitution," Barrasso said.

there was no stopping this had picked radicals.
You Replied to a phony Concerned Paulbot troll post.

Reid killed the Nuclear option to ram thru every radical possible.

Reid and he senate are still open today doing more radical business before his power dies off but not really since Mitchy is a traitor too .

I try to be dispassionate about this sort of thing. Based on past behavior, Reid was going to do this anyways.

All Cruz did was provide the Dems with a convienient pretext. IOW rather than taking all the heat themselves, they could - through incredibly convoluted reasoning - point their fingers at him. And in the process divide Conservatives somewhat.

The two lessons from this are 1. Cruz and his supporters need to be aware of how easily the Dems can spin his actions into pretzels and 2. A lot of Conservatives shouldn’t be so gullable in accepting that spin.

Oh and I’m sure some of you will slam me for bring up that fact....but that stunt gave them a opening....and all they need was a slight one.”

Not slamming you but you are incorrect. You are assuming Reid would let the nominees go into next session. That would be a rookie mistake on Reid’s part and he doesn’t make rookie mistakes.

The nominees all will be nominated with 51 votes. If Republicans listened to Cruz when Reid changed the rules years back, this nomination would have failed.

If anything, Cruz’ “stunt” did two things. First it put the RINO’s on record and second, it prevented a “Christmas Eve” vote which would have been buried.

Reid controls the Senate schedule. Nominees get approved (under the nuclear option) with 50+1 votes. Cloture on the nominees had to happen after the CR.

As best I can tell, the Dems’ argument boils down to “Since Cruz kept us here over the weekend, and we’re all still here, let’s stay in session a little longer to clear out the nominations.

IOW, had Cruz and Lee not made their stand, Reid would have adjourned the Senate right after the CR passed and let the nominations lapse until the new Senate comes in.

Thats what people have to believe to lay the blame on Cruz (and Lee). At best it’s convoluted pretzel logic. At worse it’s extreme spitefulness on Reid’s part that he’s trying to lay at Cruz’s feet.

Truth is, these nominations did not need one GOP vote to pass.

Plus, you can always count on losers like Graham, Ayotte and McCain to let the President have his nominees, and crossover.

I find the argument that Cruz and Lee caused the approval of these nominees to succeed to be totally ridiculous.

It’s divide and conquor taunting. The only people who are using it are cynics seeking to exploit a contrived argument to hurt Cruz, or idiots who are completely ignorant of how the Senate and politcs work and who are falling for the taunting spin.

And I say this as someone who is still (mostly) neutral/undecided on the potential 2016 candidates and am not (currently/yet) a Cruz booster.

Reid did lay the blame at Cruz’ feet anyway. Because the MSM would run with it regardless of the truth. It was a twofer.

Yup, like I said Cruz provided a convienient pretext for something that was going to happen anyways.

Had Cruz and Lee not made their stand, Reid would’ve blamed McConnell and the general GOP Caucus for holding up the nominations for so long. Or something like that. But as you said, blaming Cruz provides a two-fer: nominations get approved AND Reid gets to drop a hand grenade into the mass of Conservatives.

I agree. What is the last time any doctor told you how to avoid getting the disease in the first place via good habits such as exercise and nutrition? Doctors know which pills you should swallow, and not much more. Surgeons are more useful if yo really need surgery, which is not always the case.

More will get through ...so how is that Ted Cruz stunt working again.

The action of Patriotism on Cruz's part was wonderful. He is one of the VERY FEW remaining people who stand up for America.

Oh and I'm sure some of you will slam me for bring up that fact....but that stunt gave them a opening....and all they need was a slight one.

Nonsense, they don't even need a slight opening. The Democrats and Democrats-Called-Republicans don't have to hide any more. They don't need 'openings'. They just act to perform treason and the destruction of the Bill of Rights and Constitution.

I know this will mark me....but hey I couldn't bite my tongue any longer.

You're alright. You're just wrong.

You know the thing that’s amazing?

These Democrats are STILL using the Nuclear Option, but the Democrats-Who-Call-Themselves-Republicans have vowed to overturn the Nuclear Option.

“I will not punish you, no matter HOW OFTEN you rape my wife.”

Yap, and the same democrats who are bellowing about the senate report about “torture” of terrorists, but have no problem with the Jihadists cutting necks of captured journalists with dirty knives or murder of 140 innocent school children in a school in Pakistan. How many terrorists died from water boarding or suffered any permanent damage? None!

SharpRightTurn is correct. Reid was passing appointments before and after Cruz took his shot at stopping the budget bill. He can do two or more things at the same time with the help of his staff, other Demorats, and even the help of the RINO leadership.

Reid did not kill nuclear option. McConnell wants to kill it.

Reid USED the nuclear option, meaning only 51 votes needed to approve a nominee, versus 60 without the nuclear option.
