According to the Army Times, the Department of Defense will start auctioning off as many as 4,000 military-spec Humvees to the public as part of its surplus-reduction efforts. In previous years, the off-road behemoths would have been sent straight to the military scrapyard, but due to changes in policies in recent years and what the Defense Logistics Agency spokesperson Michelle McCaskill describes as “cooperation from other government offices," the used Humvees will be sold instead of scrapped for the first time.

Some states may even require title for off-road vehicles used in public spaces. I ran into this in Idaho after buying a used motorcycle way back in the mid-late 1990s. I bought a used (broken) Honda 80cc dirt bike for the engine/transmission setup for kart racing. Took the frame and the rest of the stuff that I didn't need to a local shop to see if they wanted it. They were hesitant because it didn't have a title with it.
For use strictly on private property, no issue.
I’ll say this for the Hummer, they are good to sleep on so a scorpion doesnt bite yer ya yas of a tank run you over in the middle of the night.
Still beats schlepping all that gear on foot.

LOL I can't find out.. She's 83 but can still put a hurting on me and the Tahoe is her baby :>} I drive it a lot taking her places. It's got some power I'll say that for it. I have a 95 F-150 4wd so I use it for getting in and out in the snow.
The company leased me one that I used off road in SE Az.
Loved it, a bit heavy but very capable.
PS the Jeep Cherokee was a POS rattle bucket.
I've had one Jeep. A 78 CJ-5 I bought in 1985. I liked the K-5 a lot better in just about every aspect especially safety. Bad part was when I got a K-5 it was already 15 years old.

The trail *questionable* was so steep the hummers front end kept lifting off the ground as we attempted to ascend.
I was navigating and the driver was a big ol fat ****, so I told him, “Put the emergency brake on, stomp all over that main brake, I will put my foot on it and slide over to your seat, you get out and get up over the drivers side front wheel.”
I got over, punched it up and the damn *half shackle?* goes snap!
Pig boy jumps off and I am sliding backwards down the Mt.
Wheeled it into the mt side.
Took a tracked troop transport to winch us out.
What a POS.
We use what we can get.
I'm just taking a guess but I'd say the EPA had more to do with it than GM's marketing and design departments. They had to meet the emission and fuel standards. That ruined many a good vehicle including pick ups. I drove pick ups from the early 70's up through the last one I bought an 85. All of them I could crawl into the engine compartment, sit on the wheel well, and change plugs etc.
My dad left me his 95 F-150 three years ago. I changed the plugs and wires on it and was standing on my head from a step ladder trying to reach them. The old trucks four grown men could fit in the cab and be a little crowded. The 95 two grown men and a 20 pound dog will take up the front seat. All that just to meet EPA standards.
