How could yak dung possibly make climate change worse? It’s 100% carbon neutral, and the particle pollution will stay fairly local.

the soot the dung fires release is a big contributor to climate change.

Nonsense, and hey! It’s renewable energy.

Whether dung (or wood, or anything else organic) is burned or decays, about the same amount of carbon is released back into th environment. Only difference is the speed at which this occurs.

By definition, such uptake and release of carbon is the carbon cycle. By itself, the carbon cycle is remarkably stable, about the same year after year.

The issue is one of the burning of fossil fuels, which are stored carbon that has been out of the carbon cycle for millions of years. It creates a net increase in carbon and the concentration in the atmosphere goes up.

You can argue about what problems, if any, the massive burning of fossil fuels causes, but you can’t argue it doesn’t lead to higher carbon concentrations. I measure CO2 regularly in my line of work and I’ve seen an increase in just a few years in my outside reference readings.

“Can’t they just get them onto bicycles, that should solve like everything.”

I think it would be better to put in high-speed rail systems connecting the huts.

There may come a time when the CO2 police will wander the earth telling the poor and the dispossessed how many dung chips they can put on their cook fires. — Captain Compassion.

But isn’t yak dung a fully natural product and using it as a heating source deprives the evil oil companies their obscene profits? What a dilemma for liberals.

I know how the carbon cycle works.
Yak Dung is clearly not a fossil fuel, unless the yaks ate something that's been buried for thousands of years.
So it should be carbon neutral at least.
The issue in this article is not CO2 but that yak dung doesn't burn cleanly, it generates soot.
That's plausible but I don't buy into the climate change angle.
I suspect Tibet's total output of CO2 and soot is easily dwarfed by, say, Bejing alone.

Since the Tibetans have been burning yak dung for thousands of years - and, for that matter, Indians have been burning cow dung for an equal period - it’s a little difficult to believe that the practice does anything for ‘Global Warming’ - which, in any case, is a fictitious concept designed exclusively to enrich America’s hordes of soi disant scientists, all of whom are enriching themslves lavishly at public expense.
